Combined Registration Methods for Pose Estimation

چکیده
In this work, we analyze three different registration algorithms: Chamfer distance matching, the well-known iterated closest points (ICP) and an optic flow based registration. Their pairwise combination is investigated in the context of silhouette based pose estimation. It turns out that Chamfer matching and ICP used in combination do not only perform fairly well with small offset, but also deal with large offset significantly better than the other combinations. We show that by applying different optimized search strategies, the computational cost can be reduced by a factor eight. We further demonstrate the robustness of our method against simultaneous translation and rotation.

Global Pose Estimation from Aerial Images Registration with Elevation Models
Over the last decade, the use of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) has increased drastically. Originally, the use of these aircraft was mainly military, but today many civil applications have emerged. UAVs are frequently the preferred choice for surveillance missions in disaster areas, after earthquakes or hurricanes, and in hazardous environments, e.g. for detection of nuclear radiation. The UAV...
متن کاملVideo Registration to SfM Models
Registering image data to Structure from Motion (SfM) point clouds is widely used to find precise camera location and orientation with respect to a world model. In case of videos one constraint has previously been unexploited: temporal smoothness. Without temporal smoothness the magnitude of the pose error in each frame of a video will often dominate the magnitude of frame-to-frame pose change....
متن کاملA coarse-to-fine IP-driven registration for pose estimation from single ultrasound image
A fast registration making use of implicit polynomial (IP) models is helpful for the real-time pose estimation from single clinical free-hand Ultrasound (US) image, because it is superior in the areas such as robustness against image noise, fast registration without enquiring correspondences, and fast IP coefficient transformation. However it might lead to the lack of accuracy or failure regist...
متن کاملTrajectory reconstruction with uncertainty estimation using mosaic registration
This paper addresses the problem of estimating the 3-D trajectory and associated uncertainty of an underwater autonomous vehicle from a set of images of the seabed taken by an onboard camera. The presented algorithms resort to the use of video mosaics and build upon previous work on image registration and visual pose estimation. The pose estimation is accomplished in two steps. Firstly a video ...
متن کاملLinear Solutions for Visual Augmented Reality Registration
Correct registration of virtual objects into real scenes requires robust estimation of camera pose. Since most augmented reality applications also require real-time performance in potentially restricted environments with no a priori motion model, we seek pose estimation algorithms which are fast, perform well with few reference objects and require no initialization. In this paper, we present a ...
