چکیده
The enrichment of denitrifying phosphate accumulating organisms (DNPAOs) is the prerequisite for the denitrifying phosphate removal process. This study investigated the effect of nitrate concentration on the enrichment of DNPAOs was studied with batch experiments. The Sequencing Batch Reactor (SBR) was set-up with acetate as the sole carbon source. The addition of nitrate solution and the anoxic time were gradually increased with time. Denitrifying phosphorus accumulation was observed soon, but the concentrations of nitrite and nitrate in effluent were fluctuated at the beginning. Then adjusting nitrate concentration according to the ratio of phosphate uptake to nitrate consumption get by batch experiment, the removal efficiency of phosphorus and nitrogen reached 95% and 96%, respectively, and phosphorus concentration in effluent was always lower than 0.5 mg/L in the following days. It was estimated that the percentage of DNPAOs in total PAOs increased from 27.61% (before induction of DNPAOs) to 78.61% (after induction of DNPAOs), by calculating the maximum anoxic or aerobic phosphorus uptake rate under the same conditions. Simultaneous nitrate-N, phosphate and COD removal was evaluated from synthetic waste water using mixed microbial consortia in an anoxic environment under various initial carbon load (ICL) in a batch scale reactor system. Within 6 hours of incubation, enriched DNPAOs (Denitrifying Polyphosphate Accumulating Microorganisms) were able to remove maximum COD (87%) at 2 g/L of ICL whereas maximum nit...
متن کاملAccumulation of nitrite in denitrifying barriers when phosphate is limiting.
Permeable in situ denitrifying barriers can remove nitrate from groundwater. Barriers may be constructed by filling an excavated area with a porous mixture of sand, fine gravel, and substrate or by the injection of a nonaqueous phase substrate into an aquifer. The substrate stimulates the development of a denitrifying microbial community by providing an electron donor. The objective of this stu...
متن کاملNitrous Oxide Emission Depending on the Type of Electron Acceptor by a Denitrifying Phosphorus Removal Sludge
Denitrifying polyphosphate accumulating organisms (DNPAOs) are very promising for simultaneous nitrogen and phosphorus removal. While during denitrification, emission of a greenhouse gas, nitrous oxide (N2O), may occur. In this study, DNPAOs were enriched in a lab-scale reactor, and N2O emission was examined under different electron acceptor conditions. During the anoxic phase, with the uptake ...
