چکیده

Ching et al. * found that three-adatom non-pairwise interactions, with a repulsive energy greater than a quarter the nearest pair attraction, can explain the pronounced asymmetries in the phase diagram of O/W(llO). In the first explicit calculations of such short-range “trio” interactions, we find that electronic indirect interactions have strengths consistent with their parameters. In general the closest-spaced trios are stronger than all but the few shortest-range pair interactions which determine the adlayer symmetry. We further show that triad configurations with similar shorter legs should have comparable magnitude; when applied to O/W(l lo), this idea doubles the number of trios entering the equations of Ching et al. * and thus can halve the minimum required trio strength. Such trio interactions (as well as linear triad contigurations) have a substantial quantitative effect on the pair interaction strengths extracted from Monte Carlo simulations.

Computer Simulation of Nucleation on Patterned Surfaces

We have studied qualitatively the effect of patterned substrate surface on adatom nucleation using Kinetic Monte Carlo simulations and solid-on-solid model. The inhomogeneity in the activation energies of adatom diffusion was incorporated into the simulations using two models: a) periodic variation of the adatom–substrate interaction energy as a function of the adatom lateral position and b) ad...

Energy Study at Different Temperatures for Active Site of Azurin in Water, Ethanol, Methanol and Gas Phase by Monte Carlo Simulations

The interaction between the solute and the solsent molecules play a crucial role in understanding the various molecular processes involved in chemistry and biochemistry, so in this work the potential energy of active site of azurin have been calculated in solvent by the Monte Carlo simulation. In this paper we present quantitative results of Monte Carlo calculations of potential energies of ...

Melting of two-dimensional adatom superlattices stabilized by long-range electronic interactions.

The melting transition of Ce adatom superlattices stabilized by long-range substrate-mediated electronic interactions on Cu(111) and Ag(111) noble metal surfaces has been investigated by low-temperature scanning tunneling microscopy, density functional theory calculations, and kinetic Monte Carlo simulations. Intriguingly, owing to the interaction between Ce adatoms and substrate, these superla...

Diffusion of monolayer adatom and vacancy clusters: Langevin analysis and Monte Carlo simulations of their Brownian motion.

In recent observations of Brownian motion of islands of adsorbed atoms and of vacancies with mean radius R, the cluster diffusion constant varies as R21 and R22. From an analytical Langevin description of the cluster’s steplike boundary, we find three cases, R21, R22, and R23, corresponding to the three microscopic surface mass-transport mechanisms of straight steps. We thereby provide a unifie...
