چکیده

A distribution system was designed and operated by considering unidirectional power flow from a utility source to end-use loads. The large penetrations of distributed generation (DG) into the existing distribution system causes a variety of technical problems, such as frequent tap changing problems of the on-load tap changer (OLTC) transformer, local voltage rise, protection coordination, exceeding short-circuit capacity, and harmonic distortion. In view of voltage regulation, the intermittent fluctuation of the DG output power results in frequent tap changing operations of the OLTC transformer. Thus, many utilities limit the penetration level of DG and are eager to find the reasonable penetration limits of DG in the distribution system. To overcome this technical problem, utilities have developed a new voltage regulation method in the distribution system with a large DG penetration level. In this paper, the impact of DG on the OLTC operations controlled by the line drop compensation (LDC) method is analyzed. In addition, a generalized determination methodology for the DG penetration limits in a distribution substation transformer is proposed. The proposed DG penetration limits could be adopted for a simplified interconnection process in DG interconnection guidelines. OPEN ACCESS Energies 2013, 6 4787

Optimal Multiple FCLs Allocation Considering DG Penetration in Meshed Network With Multi-Level Voltages

Increasing the short circuit current due to the penetration of distributed generations (DGs) in various voltage levels and meshed topology is a basic problem in power systems. Using fault current limiter (FCL) is an efficient approach to mitigate the exceeded short circuit levels. In this paper, a new approach is presented for multiple FCLs locating to decrease short circuit levels in meshed ne...

Impact of Distributed Generation over Power Losses on Distribution System

This paper is an intent to quantify the impact of distributed generation (DG) over active and reactive power losses on distribution system. The novelty of this paper is the use of new a relevant index: DG penetration level, DG dispersion and DG technologies. Several simulations over a simple distribution system were done. Implications about location and size of DG units were considered using pe...

Investigation of New Distribution Grid Architecture for Accomodating Higher Dg Penetration Rate

Environment considerations combined to regulatory incentives and the opening of the energy markets has fostered the development of distributed generator (DG) in particular renewable ones. However, given the present operating modes and grid structures, a massive introduction of DG could deeply modify the behaviour of distribution networks. The two strategies used in France by the Distribution Sy...
