چکیده

Regulation of growth and development is controlled by the interactions of cells with each other and the extracellular environment through signal transduction pathways that control the differentiation process by stimulating proliferation or causing cell death. This review will define the common signaling molecules and provide an overview of the general principles of signal transduction events. We also review the signal transduction pathways controlling one specific mechanism found in craniofacial development termed epithelialmesenchymal transformation (EMT) employed during gastrulation, cranial neural crest migration, and secondary palate formation. Fuz Regulates Craniofacial Development through Tissue Specific Responses to Signaling Factors

The planar cell polarity effector gene Fuz regulates ciliogenesis and Fuz loss of function studies reveal an array of embryonic phenotypes. However, cilia defects can affect many signaling pathways and, in humans, cilia defects underlie several craniofacial anomalies. To address this, we analyzed the craniofacial phenotype and signaling responses of the Fuz(-/-) mice. We demonstrate a unique ro...

P-109: Using SMAD2/3 Inhibitor to Investigate the Importance of GDF9 Signaling on Ovine Cumulus Expansion and Subsequent Embryonic Development

Background: Oocyte in vitro maturation success rate is still low in compareision to oocyte in vivo maturation. Thus prediction and improvement of oocyte competency are two critical issues in assisted reproductive technology. New insights into oocyte-cumulus cell regulatory loop may assist our optimization of in vitro maturation technique. Maturation and developmental competency of cumulus oocyt...

Divergent and conserved roles of Dll1 signaling in development of craniofacial and trunk muscle.

Craniofacial and trunk skeletal muscles are evolutionarily distinct and derive from cranial and somitic mesoderm, respectively. Different regulatory hierarchies act upstream of myogenic regulatory factors in cranial and somitic mesoderm, but the same core regulatory network - MyoD, Myf5 and Mrf4 - executes the myogenic differentiation program. Notch signaling controls self-renewal of myogenic p...

Visualization of Gli Activity in Craniofacial Tissues of Hedgehog-Pathway Reporter Transgenic Zebrafish

BACKGROUND The Hedgehog (Hh)-signaling pathway plays a crucial role in the development and maintenance of multiple vertebrate and invertebrate organ systems. Gli transcription factors are regulated by Hh-signaling and act as downstream effectors of the pathway to activate Hh-target genes. Understanding the requirements for Hh-signaling in organisms can be gained by assessing Gli activity in a s...

Mesenchymal Stem Cells: Signaling Pathways in Transdifferentiation Into Retinal Progenitor Cells

Several signaling pathways and transcription factors control the cell fate in its in vitro development and differentiation. The orchestrated use of these factors results in cell specification. In coculture methods, many of these factors secrete from host cells but control the process. Today, transcription factors required for retinal progenitor cells are well known, but the generation of these ...
