چکیده

We present UBV I CCD photometry of the stellar contents and globular cluster(GC) candidates in the spiral galaxy NGC 300 in the Sculptor group. Color-magnitude diagrams for 18 OB associations having more than 30 member stars are presented. The slope of the initial mass function for the bright stars in NGC 300 is estimated to be Γ = −2.6±0.3. Assuming the distance to NGC 300 of (m−M)0 = 26.53± 0.07, the mean absolute magnitude of three brightest blue stars is obtained to be < M V (3) > = −8.95 mag. We have performed search for GCs in NGC 300 and have found 17 GC candidates in this galaxy. Some characteristics of these GC candidates are discussed. Subject headings: galaxies: spiral — galaxies: photometry — galaxies: stellar content — galaxies: star clusters — galaxies: individual (NGC 300) — stars: early type — stars: supergiants

We determined ages for 52 star clusters with masses ≤ 10 M⊙ in the low surface brightness spiral galaxy NGC 45. Four of these candidates are old globular clusters located in the bulge. The remaining ones span a large age range. The cluster ages suggest a continuous star/cluster formation history without evidence for bursts, consistent with the galaxy being located in a relatively unperturbed en...

Using spectra obtained with the Keck I telescope we have demonstrated conclusively that the faint (23≤V≤ 24 mag.) and unusually extended objects we discovered in HST images of the lenticular galaxies, NGC 1023 and NGC 3384, are star clusters associated with their respective galaxies. In the case of NGC 1023 we were further able to establish that these objects are old (≥7–8 Gyr), moderately meta...

Hidden from optical view in the starburst region of the dwarf galaxy NGC 5253 lies an intense radio source with an unusual spectrum which could be interpreted variously as nebular gas ionized by a young stellar cluster or nonthermal emission from a radio supernova or an AGN. We have obtained 11.7 and 18.7 μm images of this region at the Keck Telescope and find that it is an extremely strong mid...

We present an overview on pulsation properties of RR Lyrae stars in the Galaxy and in Local Group dwarf galaxies. We discuss the key information that RR Lyrae might provide on their parent population, and in particular on their metallicity distribution.
