چکیده

Abstract Introduction Ventilator Associated Pneumonia (VAP), as defined by the Centers for Disease Control and prevention (CDC), is a pneumonia that occurs in a patient receiving mechanical ventilation that develops 48 hours or more after initiation of ventilation. Re-intubation which occur within 72 hours of planned extubation may be effective in VAP incidence. The aim of this study was to determine VAP incidence in re-intubated patients in comparison to patients underwent intubation without re-intubation to highlight re-intubation as a risk factor for VAP.

The prevalence of Mycoplasma pneumoniae infection in patients with ventilator-associated pneumonia hospitalized in intensive care unit

Background: Ventilator-associated pneumonia (VAP) is a type of hospital acquired pneumonia with the mortality rate between 27% and 76% that develops more than 48–72 h after endotracheal intubation. Possible causes leading to this infection can be Mycoplasma pneumoniae. The objective of this study was to determine the presence of Mycoplasma pneumoniae in bronchoalveolar samples of patients with ...

Strategies for the Prevention of Ventilator-associated Pneumonia in the Intensive Care Units: A Review

Ventilator-Associated Pneumonia (VAP) accounts for 80%-90% of hospital-acquired pneumonia cases in Intensive Care Units (ICUs). VAP occurs 48-72 hours after intubation, and is observed in 27%-29% of patients with endotracheal tube, and its risk increases with the increase in the duration of mechanical ventilation. In this review study, papers published from 1996-2018 were used to investigate st...
