چکیده

Recent years have seen the world become a closely connected society with the emergence of different types of social networks. Online social networks have provided a way to bridge long distances and establish numerous communication channels which were not possible earlier. These networks exhibit interesting behavior under intentional attacks and random failures where different structural properties influence the resilience in different ways. In this paper, we perform two sets of experiments and draw conclusions from the results pertaining to the resilience of social networks. The first experiment performs a comparative analysis of four different classes of networks namely small world networks, scale free networks, small worldscale free networks and random networks with four semantically different social networks under different attack strategies. The second experiment compares the resilience of these semantically different social networks under different attack strategies. Empirical analysis reveals interesting behavior of different classes of networks with different attack strategies.

The resilience of interdependent transportation networks under targeted attack

Modern world builds on the resilience of interdependent infrastructures characterized as complex networks. Recently, a framework for analysis of interdependent networks has been developed to explain the mechanism of resilience in interdependent networks. Here we extend this interdependent network model by considering flows in the networks and study the system’s resilience under different attack...

Mitigating Node Capture Attack in Random Key Distribution Schemes through Key Deletion

Random Key Distribution (RKD) schemes have been widely accepted to enable low-cost secure communications in Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs). However, efficiency of secure link establishment comes with the risk of compromised communications between benign nodes by adversaries who physically capture sensor nodes. The challenge is to enhance resilience of WSN against node capture, while maintainin...

Resilience of public transport networks against attacks

The behavior of complex networks under failure or attack depends strongly on the specific scenario. Of special interest are scale-free networks, which are usually seen as robust under random failure but appear to be especially vulnerable to targeted attacks. In recent studies of public transport networks of fourteen major cities of the world it was shown that these systems when represented by a...

Empirical Study of Tolerating Denial-of-Service Attacks with a Proxy Network

Proxy networks have been proposed to protect applications from Denial-of-Service (DoS) attacks. However, since large-scale study in real networks is infeasible and most previous simulations have failed to capture detailed network behavior, the DoS resilience and performance implications of such use are not well understood in large networks. While post-mortems of actual large-scale attacks are u...
