چکیده

Heterojunction solar cells have potential for very high device voltages and currents, yet this relies on correct preparation of wafer surfaces prior to a-Si deposition. This paper investigates the preparation of wafer surfaces by NaOH texturing prior to amorphous silicon intrinsic layer deposition. It is found that with a CP etch or low temperature anneal after texturing, and with correct deposition parameters, effective wafer lifetimes in excess of 1 ms can be achieved, indicating excellent surface passivation. Low reflectance achieved following wafer texturing along with high wafer lifetime led to efficiencies in finished devices as high as 17.6%.

Solar cell efficiency enhancement using a hemisphere texture containing metal nanostructures

One major problem of the conventional solar cells is low conversion efficiency. In this work, we have proposed a new design including hemisphere texturing on top and metallic plasmonic nanostructure under the silicon layer to enhance the optical absorption inside the photosensitive layer.    The finite-difference time-domain (FDTD) method has been used to investigate the interaction of light wi...

Silicon epitaxy below 200°C: Towards thin crystalline solar cells

Low temperature plasma processes provide a toolbox for etching, texturing and deposition of a wide range of materials. Here we present a bottom up approach to grow epitaxial crystalline silicon films (epi-Si) by standard RFPECVD at temperatures below 200°C. Booth structural and electronic properties of the epitaxial layers are investigated. Proof of high crystalline quality is deduced from spec...

Realization of 13.6% Efficiency on 20 μm Thick Si/Organic Hybrid Heterojunction Solar Cells via Advanced Nanotexturing and Surface Recombination Suppression.

Hybrid silicon/polymer solar cells promise to be an economically feasible alternative energy solution for various applications if ultrathin flexible crystalline silicon (c-Si) substrates are used. However, utilization of ultrathin c-Si encounters problems in light harvesting and electronic losses at surfaces, which severely degrade the performance of solar cells. Here, we developed a metal-assi...

Novel high-efficiency crystalline-silicon-based compound heterojunction solar cells: HCT (heterojunction with compound thin-layer).

With an amorphous silicon (a-Si:H)/crystalline silicon (c-Si) heterojunction structure, the heterojunction with intrinsic thin-layer (HIT) solar cell has become one of the most promising technologies for c-Si based solar cells. By replacing a-Si:H thin films with appropriate compound semiconductors, we propose novel heterojunction structures which allow c-Si heterojunction solar cells to posses...
