have the proper tools to settle the debate scientifically. While the exact date of domestication is still unknown, recent phylogenomic analyses comparing wild olive varieties to domesticated cultivars point to the first domestication event in the Levant region of Syria (same as wheat, incidentally), with domestication of all of the modern day cultivars radiating from this original domestication event.

Nutrient sensors

In the years to come, we will need to do everything we can to help preserve the enjoyment in food and drink of the growing elderly population suffering from a loss of their gustatory and olfactory perception, two senses which are critical to flavour perception, but for which there are no prosthesis (akin to hearing aids and glasses used to compensate for auditory and visual loss). There is also...

Running Head: MULTISENSORY TASTE AND TOUCH Cross-modal tactile-taste interactions in food evaluations

Detecting the taste components within a flavoured substance relies on exposing chemoreceptors within the mouth to the chemical components of ingested food. In our paper, we show that the evaluation of taste components can also be influenced by the tactile quality of the food. We first discuss how multisensory factors might influence taste, flavour and smell for both typical and atypical (synaes...

Affect differentially modulates brain activation in uni- and multisensory body-voice perception.

Emotion perception naturally entails multisensory integration. It is also assumed that multisensory emotion perception is characterized by enhanced activation of brain areas implied in multisensory integration, such as the superior temporal gyrus and sulcus (STG/STS). However, most previous studies have employed designs and stimuli that preclude other forms of multisensory interaction, such as ...
