چکیده

This paper addresses the designers’ activity and in particular the way designers express an object shape in 2D sketches through character lines. The tools currently available in commercial CAS/CAD systems to manipulate the digital models are still not sufficiently suited to support design. In this paper, we introduce the so-called Fully Free Form Deformation Features (δ-F), able to take into account the curve-oriented stylists’ way of working. Both the advantages of a free form surfaces deformation method and a feature-based approach are merged to define highlevel modelling entities allowing for a direct manipulation of surfaces through a restricted number of intuitive parameters. In addition, a δ-F classification is proposed to permit a fast access to the desired shape according to its semantics. The proposed approach is illustrated with some examples.

3D sketching for aesthetic design using fully free-form deformation features

This paper addresses the designers’ activity and in particular the way designers express an object shape in 2D sketches through character lines and how these lines form a basis for sketching shapes in 3D. The tools currently available in commercial CAS/CAD systems to manipulate the digital models are still not sufficiently suited to support design. In this paper, the so-called Fully Free Form D...

Painting on Canvas: A Facial Sketching Control System

Facial Animation in films and videogames has traditionally relied on creating all the facial poses and animation controls in the early stages of a production. This process, whether for key framed controls or motion captured animation, takes a lot of time and effort. We present a novel sketching control system inspired in the way artists draw, where a stroke defines the shape of an object and re...

A Quasi-3D Polynomial Shear and Normal Deformation Theory for Laminated Composite, Sandwich, and Functionally Graded Beams

Bending analyses of isotropic, functionally graded, laminated composite, and sandwich beams are carried out using a quasi-3D polynomial shear and normal deformation theory. The most important feature of the proposed theory is that it considers the effects of transverse shear and transverse normal deformations. It accounts for parabolic variations in the strain/stress produced by transverse shea...

A novel approach to free-form 3D curve and surface sketching for conceptual styling

In the CAD/CAS field, the increasing domination of splinebased graphic objects has driven a great attention to methods focusing on the management of free-form curves. These methods range from basic manipulation of control points to more sophisticated direct manipulation techniques by using tangency or curvature constraints. However they are not suitable for the earlier conceptual stage where qu...

ShapeShop: Free-Form 3D Design with Implicit Solid Modeling

Implicit modeling has been used since the early 1980s as an alternative to mainstream solid-modeling techniques. Beyond Boolean composition, implicit modeling integrates blending and deformation operators which allow complex free-form solid models to be more easily described. Recent advances have alleviated some of the major technical problems, such as visualization speed and surface control. I...
