of the ONH, and the lack of autonomic innervation of retinal vessels. In addition to structural vascular abnormalities, the dysregulation of arteries and veins is also important. Intraretinal haemorrhages are often a consequence of disturbed BRB. Venous dysregulation increases RVP and can lead to RVO. While hypoxia plays a major pathophysiological role in diabetic retinopathy and in wet AMD, an unstable oxygen supply contributes to GON by increasing the oxidative stress. While systemic hypertension increases the risk of infarctions or diabetic retinopathy, systemic hypotension and increased fluctuations in BP are risk factors for GON. Retinal vascular changes also predict, to some extent, cardiovascular events.

99mTc-MIBI Washout Rate to Evaluate the Effects of Steroid Therapy in Cardiac Sarcoidosis

Objective: We sought to determine the usefulness of the 99mTc-MIBI (MIBI) washout rate for the evaluation of steroid therapy in cardiac sarcoidosis (CS). Methods: Eleven CS patients underwent MIBI myocardial SPECT both before and 6 months after initiating steroid therapy. The washout rate (WOR) of MIBI was calculated using early and delayed polar map images. The washout score (WOS) of MIBI was ...

[18F]FDG PET/CT in a case of recurrent primary cardiac osteosarcoma

Primary cardiac osteosarcoma is a very rare malignancy with a high incidence of local recurrence and systemic metastasis, contributing to the poor prognosis. Radiological modalities are commonly used for the evaluation of cardiac masses. 2-[18F]fluoro-2-deoxy-D-glucose ([18F]FDG) positron emission tomography/computed tomography is a valuable whole-body imaging modality in ...

Scar sarcoidosis on 18F-FDG PET/CT

18F-labeled fluoro-2-deoxyglucose positron emission tomography/ computed tomography (18F-FDG PET/CT) is an important imaging modality in the clinical workup of patients with chronic inflammatory disorders which present quite often with a fever of unknown origin. Sarcoidosis is a multisystem chronic inflammatory disorder with a wide clinical spectrum that can involve different organs. The diagno...

Evaluation of Thymic Changes after Median Sternotomy in Children

In patients who undergo median sternotomy to treat congenital heart diseases, a thymectomy is performed to yield better access to the cardiac system. In this study we have used MRI to evaluate the changes in size, shape and location of the thymus after midsternatomy. This case-control study was performed during 2011-2012 in Shiraz, Iran. Eligible participants between 5-17 years of age were divi...

Cardiac Sarcoidosis: Clinical Manifestations, Imaging Characteristics, and Therapeutic Approach

Sarcoidosis is a multi-system disease pathologically characterized by the accumulation of T-lymphocytes and mononuclear phagocytes into the sine qua non pathologic structure of the noncaseating granuloma. Cardiac involvement remains a key source of morbidity and mortality in sarcoidosis. Definitive diagnosis of cardiac sarcoidosis, particularly early enough in the disease course to provide maxi...
