چکیده

The VLTI-Spectro-Imager (VSI) is a 2nd generation VLTI instrument under development (Malbet et al. 2008). The main improvement of VSI with respect to previous interferometric instruments (e.g. AMBER) is a significant enhancement of the imaging capability, thanks to the combination of 6 beams resulting in a significant spatial frequency gain. The science input will be further improved using the spectral dispersion of VSI, likely to reveal wavelength dependent structures in targets (e.g.. spectral lines produced in stellar winds of hot stars), and by high dynamic range observations that are expected to improve our understanding of many classes of objects (e.g. shells around evolved massive stars). In the context of the activities of the science group of the VSI consortium, many science topics have been considered, including a few devoted to massive stars (see Garcia et al. 2008).

VSI: a milli-arcsec spectro-imager for the VLTI

VLTi Spectro-Imager (VSI) is a proposition for a second generation VLTI instrument which is aimed at providing the ESO community with the capability of performing image synthesis at milli-arcsecond angular resolution. VSI provides the VLTI with an instrument able to combine 4 telescopes in a baseline version and optionally up to 6 telescopes in the near-infrared spectral domain with moderate to...

We present results from a spectroscopic search for massive companions to dust-making Galactic WC9 stars as a step to testing the paradigm that dust formation in these systems requires colliding winds to produce over densities. We find evidence for OB companions to the WC9 stars WR59 and WR65, but not WR121 or WR117. We identify lines of N iii-v and possibly N ii in the spectrum of WR88, one of ...

The Keck Aperture Masking Experiment: Near-Infrared Sizes of Dusty Wolf-Rayet Stars

We report the results of a high angular resolution near-infrared survey of dusty Wolf-Rayet stars using the Keck-1 Telescope, including new multi-wavelength images of the pinwheel nebulae WR 98a, WR 104, and WR 112. Angular sizes were measured for an additional 8 dusty WR stars using aperture masking interferometry, allowing us to probe characteristics sizes down to ∼20 milliarcseconds (∼40 AU ...

Radio and Infrared Properties of Dust - Enshrouded Wolf - Rayet Stars

This paper discusses our ongoing efforts to characterize dust-enshrouded Wolf-Rayet (WR) stars in the radio and infrared. We have used the Very Large Array to measure the broadband radio spectrum of WR stars in suspected binary systems and discovered non-thermal emission, which is usually attributed to colliding winds. In addition, infrared imaging using aperture masking interferometry on the K...

Wolf-Rayet stars probed by AMBER/VLTI

Massive stars deeply influence their surroundings by their luminosity and the injection of kinetic energy. So far, they have mostly been studied with spatially unresolved observations, although evidence of geometrical complexity of their wind are numerous. Interferometry can provide spatially resolved observations of massive stars and their immediate vicinity. Specific geometries (disks, jets, ...
