Acquisition Performance Comparison of the Generalized Maximum A Posteriori Symbol Synchronizer Versus the Data-Transition Tracking Loop

چکیده
A generalized maximum a posteriori (MAP) symbol synchronizer for arbitrary nonoverlapping pulse shape and data-transition density is derived, and a simplified realization is presented. Acquisition performance at low to very low symbol signalto-noise ratios (SNRs) is investigated and compared against the conventional datatransition tracking loop (DTTL). Simulation results show that the MAP symbol synchronizer can operate at very low symbol SNRs where the DTTL fails. Furthermore, the new symbol synchronizer reduces the initial acquisition time by at least one order of magnitude as compared with the DTTL. It also has been shown that the new symbol synchronizer is suitable for minimum-shift-keying (MSK) signaling waveforms.

Effects of Symbol Transition Density on Tracking and Acquisition Performance of the Data Transition Tracking Loop at Low Signal-to-Noise Ratios
Effects of the data transition variation on the performance of the digital data transition tracking loop (DTTL) symbol synchronizer are addressed for symbol signal-to-noise ratios and window sizes of interest. The data transition variation will affect the DTTL performance by introducing an additional timing jitter that results in additional receiver loss. Numerical and simulation results for bo...

The tracking (mean-square timing-error) performance of a linearized datatransition tracking loop (LDTTL) is presented. The difference between the LDTTL and the conventional DTTL is that the hard-limiter nonlinearity in the conventional DTTL’s inphase arm is replaced by a linear device, as suggested by the maximum a posteriori (MAP) open-loop estimate of symbol timing at low symbol signal-to-noi...

A variable structure early-late gate symbol synchronizer for rapid blind symbol timing recovery of OFDM systems is proposed and analyzed. The new synchronizer has the capability of adjusting the loop bandwidth to achieve fast acquisition and to reduce the timing jitter during the tracking phase. The variable structure synchronizer (VSS) proves to acquire symbol timing in a period less than 10 O...

In this article, we describe a slot-synchronization algorithm for optical signals transmitted using pulse-position modulation (PPM). This algorithm utilizes PPM symbol decisions in order to generate a slot-timing error signal without the use of guard time around the transmitted laser pulse or synchronization symbols. We derive expressions for the open-loop characteristic curve of the error sign...

We propose a new bit tracking loop for biphase signals which is implemented like the M A P optimal bit synchronizer by the sample-correlate-choose-largest algorithm except that the estimator is sampled and moved at most one sample each bit time. A mathematical Markovian model for analysis is used. The performance of the bit tracking loop, the mean square error of the jitter and the average acqu...
