The role of ion cyclotron motion at Ganymede: Magnetic field morphology and magnetospheric dynamics
نویسندگان
چکیده
[1] Ion cyclotron motion can play a role in shaping magnetospheres and governing magnetospheric dynamics, particularly in weakly magnetized systems such as the moons of outer planets. However, MHD explicitly neglects such effects. We demonstrate the importance of ion cyclotron motion in the near space environment of Ganymede using 3-dimensional multi-fluid simulations to account for Galileo magnetometer data from several flybys through various regions of Ganymede’s magnetosphere. These simulations track several ion species and incorporate ion cyclotron effects through a comprehensive treatment of the plasma dynamics and the generalized Ohm’s law equation. In the ideal MHD limit of the multi-fluid formulation the size of Ganymede’s magnetosphere is underestimated, while in the full multi-fluid treatment the magnetosphere is shown to be in good agreement with magnetometer measurements from Galileo. The importance of treating the ion cyclotron motion is most noticeable near the magnetopause where magnetic field strengths approach zero. Citation: Paty, C., and R. Pulsed electromagnetic field at frequency and intensity resembling potassium ion cyclotron resonance selectively impairs breast cancer cell through apoptosis
Introduction: Breast cancer (BC) is the most common women cancer worldwide. Radiotherapy and chemotherapy are the two common treatment options but these techniques suffer low selectivity and adverse effects on surrounding normal tissues. Non- ionizing pulsed electromagnetic fields (PEMFs) in ultra-narrow band frequency and intensity have shown anticancer effects. Changing potas...
متن کاملDynamics of Ganymede’s magnetopause: Intermittent reconnection under steady external conditions
[1] Magnetic reconnection at the terrestrial magnetopause is frequently intermittent, leading to the formation of localized reconnected flux bundles referred to as flux transfer events (FTEs). It remains unclear whether the intermittency of the process is intrinsic or arises because of fluctuations of solar wind properties. Here we use Ganymede’s magnetosphere, which is embedded in a background...
متن کاملInvestigation of handmade ferrofluids' motion in a ventilated cavity using computational fluid dynamics
In this research, some more applicable ferrofluids are produced and their mechanical specifications are measured, experimentally. Also, their treatments in the ventilated cavity geometry are assessed numerically. The magnetite nanoparticles are produced by a chemical combination of Fe2+ and Fe3+ with NH3. In order to solve the nanoparticles in the new mediums, a...

Calcium channels are cell membrane proteins that play an important role in control the Ca ion flux through the membrane. In this study, the effect of external constant electric field on the dynamics of calcium ions in a L-type channel, located within a stochastically fluctuating medium, is modeled via the application of the molecular dynamics (MD) simulation method. The obtained results show th...
متن کاملTwo-Ion Control and Polarization Forces for Precise Mass Comparisons
We have improved the ability to compare the masses of single ions by an order of magnitude to a fractional accuracy of ∼ 7× 10−12. This is done by simultaneously confining two ions in a Penning trap, and simultaneously comparing their cyclotron frequencies which are inversely proportional to the masses. The precision of the previous technique of alternately trapping the two ions was completely ...
