Evaluation of 3D fiber orientation analysis based on x-ray computed tomography data

چکیده
Many products in automotive applications are using fiber reinforced polymers due to the advantage of light weight and better mechanical properties. The effect of fiber reinforcement is directly dependent on the length and orientation of the fibers within the polymer matrix. The established methods to measure quantitatively fiber orientation are destructive analyses based on 2D polished sections. However, recently several methods have been published which provide quantitative analysis using 3D data sets originated from x-ray computed tomography. In this study we tested the results of the fiber orientation module of the company Volume Graphics (VG) using simulated well known data sets as well as data sets obtained from measurements of samples with computed tomography.

Impact of Photon Spectra on the Sensitivity of Polymer Gel Dosimetry by X-Ray Computed Tomography
Introduction: The purpose of the current study was to investigate the effect of X-ray spectra on the sensitivity of a polymer gel dosimeter imaged with a conventional computed tomography (CT) scanner. Material and Methods: The whole process of CT imaging of an irradiated polymer gel was simulated by MCNPX Monte Carlo (MC) code. The imaging of polyacrylamide gel was accomplished by means of a co...
