چکیده

Abstract In this paper, a computer-based analysis of AC-coupled silicon microstrip detectors is presented. The study aims at investigating the main geometrical parameters responsible for potentially critical effects, such as early micro-discharges and breakdown phenomena. The adoption of CAD tools allows for evaluating the actual field distribution within the device, and makes it possible to identify critical regions. The adoption of overhanging metal strips is shown to have a positive impact on the electric field distribution, reducing corner effects and thus minimizing breakdown risks.

Degradation of charge sharing after neutron irradiation in strip silicon detectors with different geometries

The aim of the CERN/RD50 collaboration is the improvement of the radiation tolerance of semiconductor detectors for future experiments at high-luminosity colliders. In the RD50 framework, evidence of enhanced signal charge in severely irradiated silicon detectors (diodes, segmented planar and 3D devices) was found. The underlying mechanism was labelled charge multiplication. This has been one o...

Scipp-00/48 Simulations of the Silicon Microstrip Detector for the Glast Experiment

Device simulations of the silicon microstrip detectors that will equip the Tracking System of the GLAST experiment have been performed. The influence on the electric characteristics of both strip pitch and width have been evaluated. First, a DC calculation is done to predict the risk of breakdown within the working bias conditions. Then, the backplane and interstrip capacitances are estimated b...

Characterization and Modeling of Non-Uniform Charge Collection in CVD Diamond Pixel Detectors

A pixel detector with a CVD diamond sensor has been studied in a 180 GeV/c pion beam. The charge collection properties of the diamond sensor were studied as a function of the track position, which was measured with a silicon microstrip telescope. Non-uniformities were observed on a length scale comparable to the diamond crystallites size. In some regions of the sensor, the charge drift appears ...

ELECTRODE EFFECT ON FLOW CONDITIONS IN ARGON GAS METAL ARE MODELING

A two dimensional mathematical model has been developed for describing the temperature, flow, and electric fields in the are column of the Gas Metal Arc Welding (GMAW) of aluminum in argon shielding gas using axisymmetric Navier-Stokes, Maxwell, and differential thermal energy equations. The predicted results are most sensitive to the cathode spot radius and an optimum cathode spot radius exist...

Process Dependence of the Capacitance of Silicon Microstrip Detectors

Strip capacitance is an important parameter in determining the noise performance of silicon microstrip systems. For LHC tracking applications, the combined requirements of short shaping time and low power consumption for the readout electronics strongly emphasise this fact. Significant differences in strip capacitances from different processes have been observed on a range of both p-side and n-...
