چکیده

In this paper we consider thermoacoustic tomography as the inverse problem of determining from lateral Cauchy data the unknown initial conditions in a wave equation with spatially varying coefficients. This problem also occurs in several applications in the area of medical imaging and non-destructive testing. Using the method of quasi-reversibility, the original ill-posed problem is replaced with a boundary value problem for a fourth order partial differential equation. We find a weak H2 solution of this problem and show that it is a well-posed elliptic problem. Error estimates and convergence of the approximation follow from observability estimates for the wave equation, which are proven using a Carleman estimate. We derive a numerical scheme for the solution of the quasi-reversibility problem by a B-spline Galerkin method, for which we give error estimates. Finally, we present numerical results supporting the robustness of this method for the reconstruction of initial conditions from full and limited boundary data.

Thermoacoustic Tomography with an Arbitrary Elliptic Operator

Thermoacoustic tomography is a term for the inverse problem of determining of one of initial conditions of a hyperbolic equation from boundary measurements. In the past publications both stability estimates and convergent numerical methods for this problem were obtained only under some restrictive conditions imposed on the principal part of the elliptic operator. In this paper logarithmic stabi...

On an Inverse Hyperbolic Problem

Thermoacoustic tomography with correction for acoustic speed variations.

Thermoacoustic tomography (TAT) is a technique that measures microwave-induced thermoacoustic waves at the boundary of biological tissue and generates images of internal microwave absorption distributions from the measurements. Existing reconstruction algorithms for TAT are based on the assumption that the acoustic properties in the tissue are homogeneous. Biological tissue, however, has hetero...

Tr Adjoint Imaging Method for Mitat

Most of the current imaging methods in microwave induced thermoacoustic tomography (MITAT) system assume that the heterogeneous sound velocity (SV) and density distribution are given or subject to Gaussian distribution. These situations generally are not satisfied. To improve multi-targets thermoacoustic sources imaging quality in a heterogeneous tissue, an iterative TR adjoint imaging method i...

Filtered backprojection for thermoacoustic computed tomography in spherical geometry

Thermoacoustic computed tomography (TCT) is a novel imaging technique for non-destructive evaluation and medical imaging. It uses electromagnetic energy as input and the induced thermoacoustic pressure eld as measurement output. The determination of the unknown energy deposition function is based on the integral geometric problem of reconstructing a function from its integrals over certain sphe...
