Planck Scale Effects and Axions in Supersymmetry

چکیده
The effects of possible explicit violation of the Peccei-Quinn symmetry responsible for the solution of the strong CP problem are studied in super-symmetric models. It is shown that automatic models with an abelian U (1) gauge symmetry are easy to construct both in the context of fundamental and composite models of axions. It is argued that it is preferable to use abelian rather that nonabelian gauge groups in order to obtains automatic symmetries. A composite model with no exact R symmetry is studied and it is found that, unlike common belief, supersymmetry is broken.

Dynamical supersymmetry breaking at low energies.
Conventional approaches to supersymmetric model building suffer from several naturalness problems: they do not explain the large hierarchy between the weak scale and the Planck mass, and they require fine tuning to avoid large flavor changing neutral currents and particle electric dipole moments. The existence of models with dynamical supersymmetry breaking, which can explain the hierarchy, has...
متن کاملAnomaly Mediated Supersymmetry Breaking in Four Dimensions, Naturally
We present a simple four-dimensional model in which anomaly mediated supersymmetry breaking naturally dominates. The central ingredient is that the hidden sector is near a strongly-coupled infrared fixed-point for several decades of energy below the Planck scale. Strong renormalization effects then sequester the hidden sector from the visible sector. Supersymmetry is broken dynamically and requ...
متن کاملCompleting Natural Inflation
If the inflaton is a pseudo-scalar axion, the axion shift symmetry can protect the flatness of its potential from too large radiative corrections. This possibility, known as natural inflation, requires an axion scale which is greater than the (reduced) Planck scale. It is unclear whether such a high value is compatible with an effective field theoretical description, and if the global axionic s...

Unbroken supersymmetry requires degeneracy between Bose and Fermi degrees of f reedom [1]. Since no such degeneracy is actually observed, any supersymmetr ic model of nature must include a mechanism for supersymmetry breaking [2]. The scale of this breaking may be of order the Planck m a s s in which case only local supersymmetry (supergravity) is of relevance to the real world. If this is the ...
متن کاملAxion Inflation in Type II String Theory
Inflationary models driven by a large number of axion fields are discussed in the context of type IIB compactifications with N = 1 supersymmetry. The inflatons arise as the scalar modes of the R-R two-forms evaluated on vanishing two-cycles in the compact geometry. The vanishing cycles are resolved by small two-volumes or NS-NS B-fields which sit together with the inflatons in the same supermul...
