A thermometry technique based on atomic lineshapes using diode laser LIF in flames

چکیده
We report on the development of a novel diode laser thermometry technique permitting temperature measurements in flames based on the fluorescence lineshapes of an atomic tracer species. The technique, which we term OLAF (one-line atomic fluorescence) requires only a single diode laser source for excitation, is simple to implement, and has excellent spatial resolution. Temperatures are deduced from the 5P1/2 fi 6S1/2 transition of atomic indium, the lineshape of which is highly sensitive to temperature changes at typical flame conditions. A rigorous validation is performed in a reference flame with comparisons to measurements by CARS and by Na-line reversal, and to numerical simulations. 2006 The Combustion Institute. Two-line atomic fluorescence flame thermometry using diode lasers
This paper reports on the first application of diode laser based LIF for pointwise temperature measurements in flames. The technique is based on two-line atomic fluorescence (TLAF) thermometry of indium atoms seeded at trace levels into the flame. Two novel extended cavity diode laser systems (ECDLs) were developed, providing tunable single-mode radiation around 410 and 451 nm, respectively, to...
متن کاملDiode laser atomic fluorescence temperature measurements in low-pressure flames
Temperature measurements have been performed in a low-pressure flame by the technique of diode laser induced atomic fluorescence. The experiments were done in a near-stoichiometric flat-flame of premixed methane, oxygen and nitrogen, at a pressure of 5.3 kPa. Indium atoms were seeded to the flame and probed using blue diode lasers; the lineshapes of the resulting fluorescence spectra were used ...
متن کاملHigh-repetition-rate combustion thermometry with two-line atomic fluorescence excited by diode lasers.
We report on kilohertz-repetition-rate flame temperature measurements performed using blue diode lasers. Two-line atomic fluorescence was performed by using diode lasers emitting at around 410 and 451 nm to probe seeded atomic indium. At a repetition rate of 3.5 kHz our technique offers a precision of 1.5% at 2000 K in laminar methane/air flames. The spatial resolution is better than 150 microm...
متن کاملA method for performing high accuracy temperature measurements in low-pressure sooting flames using two-line atomic fluorescence
We demonstrate a step change in the capability of diode laser excited two-line atomic fluorescence (TLAF) thermometry and show it is well-suited to the study of low-pressure sooting flames. The new developments to the technique reported here were essential to achieve the accuracy (±41 K) and precision (±8 K) required for useful measurements in such systems. This represents the first application...
متن کاملDiode laser induced fluorescence spectroscopy for combustion thermometry
This paper describes the first use of novel blue diode lasers to make temperature measurements based on fluorescence. As a demonstration of this principle, indium atoms were seeded as a probe species into flames and the resulting diode laser induced fluorescence allowed an accurate determination of the temperature at a point. This permits spatially resolved measurements to be made, which are im...
