چکیده

Fernandes, J., and Pikaar, N. A. (1972). Archives of Disease in Childhood, 47, 41. Ketosis in hepatic glycogenosis. The occurrence of ketosis in 41 patients with liver glycogenosis and a control group of 22 children was investigated. Fasting ketosis was present in children with a deficiency of the debranching enzyme system and in young children with a deficiency of the phosphorylase system, but never in patients with a glucose-6-phosphatase deficiency. Oral tolerance tests on a patient deficient in debranching enzyme showed that the blood levels of glucose and ketone bodies changed in the opposite direction. It is argued that, for biochemical reasons, the occurrence of ketosis in patients with a glucose6-phosphatase deficiency is improbable.

Hepatic glycogenosis in type 1 diabetes mellitus mimicking Mauriac syndrome

Hepatic glycogenosis in type 1 diabetes mellitus (DM) can be caused by poor glycemic control due to insulin deficiency, excessive insulin treatment for diabetic ketoacidosis, or excessive glucose administration to control hypoglycemia. Mauriac syndrome, which is characterized by hepatomegaly due to hepatic glycogenosis, growth retardation, delayed puberty, and Cushingoid features, is a rare dia...

Hepatic glycogenosis in a patient with poorly controlled type 1 diabetes mellitus

Hepatomegaly and liver dysfunction might develop in patients with diabetes mellitus due to glycogen deposition or nonalcoholic steatohepatitis. We experienced a case of hepatic glycogenosis in a patient with type 1 diabetes mellitus who presented with recurrent hypoglycemia, suggesting impairment of glycogenolysis and gluconeogenesis. A 10-year-old girl with a 4-year history of type 1 diabetes ...

New aspect of hepatic nuclear glycogenosis in diabetes.

Three cases of nuclear glycogenosis in the liver of diabetic patients have been studied by electron microscopy. In addition to the glycogen deposits described by others, an unusual intranuclear glycogen-filled body was found in all three cases. This body occurred alone or in close contact with the major glycogen deposit.

Phosphorylase kinase of the liver: deficiency in a girl with increased hepatic glycogen.

Studies of a child with glycogenosis revealed an increased concentration of glycogen and low phosphorylase activity in her liver. Using mixtures of homogenates of the patient's liver and of normal liver, we found the low phosphorylase activity to be caused by a deficiency of phosphorylase kinase and not of hepatic phosphorylase. The fact that phosphorylase activity was restored to normal values...

Fetal hepatic and neural substrate utilization as affected by induced nutritional ketosis in swine.

Systemic ketosis was induced in first-parity gilts by the isocaloric substitution of glucose with 1,3-butylene glycol to supply 20% of the total dietary energy beginning on d 23 (23 BG) or d 60 (60 BG) of gestation. Ketosis reduced (P less than .05) maternal plasma glucose, urea N and insulin concentrations. Fetal carcass dry matter and carcass glycogen contents were reduced (P less than .05) b...
