Simulation of Boundary Layer Flows over Biofouled Surfaces

چکیده
This study presents a methodology for modeling a developing turbulent boundary layer flows over surfaces with large (macro-scale) rougness elements, with particular application to flow over bio-fouled surfaces. A sharp-interface immersed boundary method coupled with a wall model and large-eddy simulations is used to carry out accurate simulations of flow over such macro-bio-fouled surfaces. Simulation of flow over arrays of modeled barnacles with different barnacle density have been carried out, and results are presented on the effect of distribution density on the flow physics, and the drag on the surfaces. Furthermore, a surface containing roughness elements of two length-scales is compared to the single-scale case to illustrate the effect of having roughness elements of more than one scale.

This paper presents an insight into the boundary layer of free convection and heat transfer of nanofluids over a vertical plate at very low and high Prandtl number. Suitable similarity variables are used to convert the governing systems of nonlinear partial differential equations of the flow and heat transfer to systems of nonlinear ordinary differential equations which are solved using multi-s...
متن کاملStudy of Parameters Affecting Separation Bubble Size in High Speed Flows using k-ω Turbulence Model
Shock waves generated at different parts of vehicle interact with the boundary layer over the surface at high Mach flows. The adverse pressure gradient across strong shock wave causes the flow to separate and peak loads are generated at separation and reattachment points. The size of separation bubble in the shock boundary layer interaction flows depends on various parameters. Reynolds-averaged...

Occurrence of laminar separation bubbles on solid walls of an elliptic cylinder has been simulated using a recently developed transitional model for boundary layer flows. Computational method is based on the solution of the Reynolds averaged Navier-Stokes (RANS) equations and the eddy-viscosity concept. Transitional model tries to simulate streamwise fluctuations, induced by freestream turbulen...

The accurate prediction of turbulent flows separating from curved and otherwise continuous surfaces is one of the most difficult tasks for any computational framework. Among several difficulties, two major ones are the unsteady, spatially varying separation region – usually involving patches of alternately separated and attached flow and the need to resolve accurately the very thin near-wall la...
