چکیده

A studentized range test using a two-stage and a one-stage sampling procedures, respectively, is proposed for testing the hypothesis that the average deviation of the normal means is falling into a practical indifference zone. Both the level and the power of the proposed test associated with the hypotheses are controllable and they are completely independent of the unknown variances. The two-stage procedure is a design-oriented procedure that satisfies certain probability requirements and simultaneously determines the required sample sizes for an experiment while the one-stage procedure is a data-analysis procedure after the data have been collected, which can supplement the two-stage procedure when the later has to end its experiment sooner than its required experimental process is completed. Tables needed for implementing these procedures are given.

Permutation Tests and Confidence Intervals for the Area under the Roc-curve

We investigate rank-based studentized permutation methods for the nonparametric Behrens-Fisher problem, i.e. inference methods for the area under the ROC-curve (AUC). We hereby prove that the studentized permutation distribution of the Brunner-Munzel rank statistic is asymptotically standard normal, even under the alternative. This does not only imply consistency of the corresponding permutatio...

Comparing two testing procedures in unbalanced two-way ANOVA models under heteroscedasticity‎: Approximate degree of freedom and parametric bootstrap approach

‎The classic F-test is usually used for testing the effects of factors in homoscedastic two-way ANOVA models‎. ‎However‎, ‎the assumption of equal cell variances is usually violated in practice‎. ‎In recent years‎, ‎several test procedures have been proposed for testing the effects of factors‎. ‎In this paper‎, ‎the two methods that are approximate degree of freedom (ADF) and parametric bootstr...

On Testing the Mean Equivalence of Treatments from Correlated Normal Populations

This manuscript provides extended statistical tables, a numerical example with detailed calculations and Fortran code in conjunction with the paper entitled ”On testing the mean equivalence of treatments from correlated normal populations” by Chen, Hubert J, Wu, Shu-Fei and Wang, WenGine. Let there be k equally correlated treatment populations under consideration, a Studentized range test is pr...

Spurious Spatial Regression, Spatial Cointegration and Heteroscedasticity

A test strategy consisting of a two-step application of a Lagrange Multiplier test was recently suggested as a device to reveal spatial nonstationarity, spurious spatial regression and spatial cointegration. The present paper generalises the test procedure by incorporating control for biased test values emerging from unobserved heteroscedasticity. Using Monte Carlo simulation, the behaviour of ...

A comparative study of the K - means algorithm and the normal mixture model for clustering : Univariate case

This paper gives a comparative study of the K-means algorithm and the mixture model (MM) method for clustering normal 7 data. The EM algorithm is used to compute the maximum likelihood estimators (MLEs) of the parameters of the MM model. These parameters include mixing proportions, which may be thought of as the prior probabilities of different clusters; the maximum 9 posterior (Bayes) rule is ...
