چکیده

Acute Promyelocytic Leukaemi.a (APML) is an uncommon type of acute non-lymphocytic leukaemia (ANLL)l. Treatment of APML is associated with significant mortality and morbidity. Ten to twenty per cent of the patients die early of fatal haemorrhage resulting from coagulopathy and sepsis. An alternative approach to the treatment of APML has centered on the use of differentiating agents to induce remission. Recent therapeutic trials confirm that all-trans retinoic acid is a safe and highly effective agent for inducing complete remission in AP.MIP·4.5. We report a child with relapsed APML who failed reinduction with conventional chemotherapy but responded to all trans-retinoic acid.

Acute promyelocytic leukaemia with a novel translocation t(16;17)(q12;p13): a case report.

Acute promyelocytic leukaemia (APML) is characterised by the t(15;17)(q22;q21), that results in the fusion of the promyelocytic leukaemia (PML) gene at 15q22 with the retinoic acid α-receptor (RARA) gene at 17q21. The current case report describes a 13-year-old male with APML, who was negative for PML/RARA fusion signal but reported to have an atypical translocation t(16;17). To the best of our...

Presenting features and treatment outcome of acute promyelocytic leukemia arising after multiple sclerosis.

We report the clinical features and treatment outcome of 33 patients with multiple sclerosis who developed acute promyelocytic leukemia. Thirty patients were previously exposed to mitoxantrone. The median latency period between treatment initiation and acute promyelocytic leukemia diagnosis was 32 months. The PML-RARA bcr1 iso-form was identified in 87% of cases. Twenty-nine (90%) patients achi...

Acute Promyelocytic Leukaemia

Acute promyelocytic leukemia (APL) represents 15 % of acute myeloid leukaemia. Prior to tretinoin usage, the treatment of APL was difficult and remission rates were low especially in developing countries due to mortality resulting primarily from bleeding'. APL is associated with a coagulopathy which may be due to a combination of disseminated intravascular coagulation and primary fibrinolysis. ...

All-Trans Retinoic Acid-Induced Pseudotumor Cerebri during Induction Therapy for Acute Promyelocytic Leukemia: A Case Report and Literature Review

All-trans retinoic acid (ATRA), a derivative of vitamin A, is an essential component in the treatment of acute promyelocytic leukemia (APL). Though considered to be a relatively safe drug, use of ATRA can lead to several side effects such as retinoic acid syndrome and pseudotumor cerebri (PC). PC is a rare disorder characterized by neurologic and ocular signs and symptoms of increased intracran...
