چکیده

We calculate accurately the number of solar neutrino events expected as a function of solar zenith angle, with and without neutrino oscillations, for detectors at the locations of Super-Kamiokande, SNO, and the Gran Sasso National Laboratory. Using different Earth models to estimate geophysical uncertainties, and different solar models to estimate solar uncertainties, we evaluate distortions predicted by the Mikheyev-SmirnovWolfenstein ~MSW! effect in the zenith angle distributions of solar neutrino events. The distortions are caused by oscillations and by n-e interactions in the Earth that regenerate ne from nm or nt . We show that the first two moments of the zenith-angle distribution are more sensitive to the small mixing angle MSW solution than the conventionally studied day-night asymmetry. We present iso-s contours that illustrate the potential of Super-Kamiokande, SNO, BOREXINO, ICARUS, and HERON/HELLAZ for detecting the Earth regeneration effect at their actual locations ~and at the equator!. MSW solutions favored by the four pioneering solar neutrino experiments predict characteristic distortions for Super-Kamiokande, SNO, BOREXINO, and ICARUS that range from being unmeasurably small to .5s ~stat! after only a few years of observations. @S0556-2813~97!01811-6#

Comprehensive Study of the Possibility of Day - Night Effect Enhancement

A set of quantitative predictions for the D-N asymmetry in the Super Kamiokande detector is presented. For these predictions, neutrino events are collected in “samples” defined by the trajectories in the Earth of the corresponding solar neutrinos. The more important samples considered here are: the full sample of neutrinos detected at night, the sample of night neutrinos which cross the Earth c...

Day-Night and Energy Variations for Maximal Neutrino Mixing Angles

It has been stated in the literature that the case of maximal mixing angle for ve leads to no day-night effect for solar neutrinos and an energy independent flux suppression of 1. While the case of maximal mixing angle and Am 2 in the MSW range of parameter 2 space does lead to suppression of the electron neutrinos reaching the earth from the sun by Ps = 1, the situation is different for neutri...

Day-Night and Energy Dependence of MSW Solar Neutrinos for Maximal Mixing

پراکندگی نوترینوی میونی از روی الکترون قطبیده به الکترون و نوترینو در فضا- زمان ناجابه‌جایی

For neutrino scattering from polarized electron, the weak interaction term in the cross section is significantly suppressed by the polarized term. The magnetic moment term does not receive any correction from the electron polarization. Hence, the study of the magnetic moment of neutrinos through scattering from the polarized electron leads to a stronger bound on the neutrino magnetic moment com...
