Pulmonary Artery Stenosis Associated with Ductus Arteriosus Following Maternal Rubella

چکیده
T HE most frequent cardiovascular anomaly following maternal rubella is patent ductus arteriosus.1-0; The majority of patients with typical signs of patent ductus arteriosus are treated surgically without special diagnostic studies such as cardiac catheterization and angiocardiography. In these individuals residual systolic murmurs may persist and are often attributed to mild pulmonary valvular stenosis. In many of these cases mild valvular pulmonic stenosis has been demonstrated by cardiac catheterization.7-9 Other cardiac malformations,)' 10 have been associated with maternal rubella during the first trimester of pregnancy, but stenosis of the main pulmonary artery or its branches has been only recently described by Rowe.'; He studied offspring of mothers who had contracted rubella during an epidemic in New Zealand and found a high incidence of varying degrees of pulmonary artery stenoses. In 11 cases of stenoses of the pulmonary artery, only three had an associated patent ductus arteriosus. His report confirmed the previous implication of maternal rubella as a cause of pulmonary stenoses."1 A history of maternal rubella has occasionally been noted in other series of patients with stenoses of the pulmonary arteries.l2--) The purpose of this report is to present findings in nine patients with pulmonary artery stenoses associated with patent ductus arteriosus. In seven, a definite history of maternal rubella during the first trimester was

متن کاملSupravalvular aortic stenosis as part of rubella syndrome, with discussion of pathogenesis.
Gregg (1941) first reported the association of maternal rubella in early pregnancy and congenital malformation. Subsequent authors described additional defects, including cardiac malformation, microcephaly, and deaf mutism (Swan et al., 1943). Persistence of the ductus arteriosus was thought to be the most common cardiac lesion (Campbell, 1961), but the more widespread use of cardiac catheteriz...
متن کاملCongenital heart defects following maternal rubella during pregnancy.
The occurrence of various congenital anomalies, including heart defects, in children whose mothers had suffered from rubella during pregnancy was originally described by Gregg (1941) in Australia and these observations have been confirmed by many other workers. There is, however, surprisingly little detailed information available about the particular types of congenital heart defect that may oc...

The cardiac abnormality most frequently found in rubella syndrome is a combination of branch pulmonary artery stenosis and patent ductus arteriosus, though isolated branch pulmonary artery stenosis is twice as common as isolated patent ductus arteriosus [1]. However, a wide variety of cardiac malformations may be produced, such as ventricular and atrial septal defects, stenosis of the pulmonary...

Patent ductus arteriosus (PDA) is an open communication between the upper descending thoracic aorta and the proximal left pulmonary artery, which results from persistence of the fetal ductus arteriosus. It may be isolated or occur with other congenital cardiac anomalies. Aneurysms of the ductus arteriosus are rare lesions which may occur as a spontaneous. infantile fonn or occur in later c...
