Synthetic Bone Graft

چکیده
There are four characteristics that an ideal bone graft material should exhibit which include: (i) osteointegration, the ability to chemically bond to the surface of bone without an intervening layer of fibrous tissue;1 (ii) osteoconduction, the ability to support the growth of bone over its surface;1 (iii) osteoinduction, the ability to induce differentiation of pluripotential stem cells from surrounding tissue to an osteoblastic phenotype;2 and (iv) osteogenesis, the formation of new bone by osteoblastic cells present within the graft material.2 Only autogenous bone graft satisfies all of these requirements. Allograft is osteointegrative and osteoconductive and may exhibit osteoinductive potential, but it is not osteogenic because it contains no live cellular component. Synthetic bone graft substitutes currently possess only osteointegrative and osteoconductive properties.

Background and Aims: Intrabony periodontal defects are one of the important problems in periodontal diseases. Treatment of intrabony periodontal defects with synthetic materials such as Cerasorb has been shown to enhance periodontal regeneration. The aim of this study was to compare the effect of Cerasorb with autogenous bone graft (A.B.G) as a gold standard in treatment of two to three wall pe...
متن کاملThe role of the osteoconductive scaffold in synthetic bone graft.
Autogenous bone is regarded as the gold standard for bone graft materials as it provides 3 elements necessary to generate and maintain bone: scaffolding for osteoconduction, growth factors for osteoinduction, and progenitor cells for osteogenesis. Allograft is more limited than autograft in these essential elements and yields more variable clinical results. Composite synthetic grafts offer an a...
متن کاملComparison of autogenous tooth bone graft and synthetic bone graft materials used for bone resorption around implants after crestal approach sinus lifting: a retrospective study
PURPOSE This retrospective study compares the amount of bone resorption around implants between an autogenous tooth bone graft (AutoBT) and a synthetic bone graft after a bone-added crestally approached sinus lift with simultaneous implant placements. METHODS In all, 37 patients participated in this study. Seventeen patients were grouped as group I and underwent an AutoBT-added sinus lift usi...

Background and Purpose: Autograft is the best bone graft substitute, however, it has some limitations, so allograft with synthetic or natural materials has been advised to use for bone graft. In this study, Iranian Caspian seashell was used as a biocompatible natural material for radiological evaluation. lodgment of seashell in drilled defects of femur was compared in the treatment group (rab...

Background: Through combining two synthetic and natural polymers, scaffolds can be developed for tissue engineering and regenerative medicine purposes. Methods: In this work, carboxymethyl chitosan (CMC; 20%) was grafted to Polycaprolactone (PCL) nanofibers using the cold atmospheric plasma of helium. The PCL scaffolds were exposed to CAP, and functional groups were developed on the PCL surface...
