SnapShot: Neuronal Regulation of Aging
نویسندگان
چکیده
Aging is characterized by loss of homeostasis across multiple tissues. The nervous system governs whole-body homeostasis by communicating external and internal signals to peripheral tissues. Here, we highlight neuronal mechanisms and downstream outputs that regulate aging and longevity. Targeting these neuronal pathways may be a novel strategy to promote healthy aging. Can social instability, food deprivation and food inequality accelerate neuronal aging?
Based on both animal and human studies, inequality in food intake and social instability has adverse effects on the health of individuals and the community. However, it is not known whether social instability, food deprivation and food inequality affect neuronal death and premature aging in young animals. To address this question, the effects of these adverse situations, histopathological chang...
متن کاملALTERATIONS OF ADP-RIBOSYLATION AND DNA-BREAKS IN AGING BRAIN CELLS
Neuronal and astroglial cells were prepared from whole brain of three month and 30-month- old rats for study of alterations in the nuclear poly ADP-ribosylation and DNA breaks with age. The relative purity of the cell preparations was confirmed by the determination of the neurofilament (low molecular weight) and glutamine synthetase content of the cells using ELISA. An increase (75%) in th...

متن کاملادراک و باورها نسبت به سالخوردگی و تأثیر آن بر سلامت عمومی سالمندان: ارزیابی الگوی خودگردانی
Objectives: The beliefs and perceptions regarding aging have an important effect on the well-being of the elderly population. A self-regulation model is one of the useful theoretical models to explain the role of perceptions and beliefs about aging in determining the health outcomes of elderly people. The aim of this study was to determine the relationship between aging-related perception ...
متن کاملKlotho Protein,A Biomarker for AKI
Klotho is an anti-aging single-pass membrane protein that is mainly produced in the kidney. The level of soluble klotho decreases with age and the klotho gene is associated with an increased risk of age-related diseases, such as diabetes, skin atrophy, chronic kidney disease, ataxia and cancer. The klotho gene is composed of five exons and encodes a membrane glycoprotein located in the plasma ...
