Topological Analysis of Cobe-dmr Cmb Maps

چکیده
Geometric characteristics of random fields are exploited to test the consistency of density perturbation model spectra with COBE data. These CMB maps are analyzed using the number of anisotropy hot spots and their boundary curvature. CMB maps which account for instrumental effects and sky coverage are Monte Carlo generated. These simulations show that a scale invariant HarrisonZeldovich primordial Gaussian density fluctuation spectrum is consistent with the data. The CMB fluctuation coherence angle, based on boundary curvature, gives a spectral index n = 1.2± 0.3.

Scaling properties of the cosmic background plasma and radiation
Scaling properties of the cosmic microwave background (CMB) radiation are studied using satellite (COBE-DMR maps), balloonborne and ground-based (combined QMASK map) data. Quantitative consistency is found between the multiscaling properties of the COBE-DMR and QMASK CMB maps. Surprisingly, it is found that the observed CMB temperature multiscaling resembles quantitatively the multiscaling prop...
متن کاملAstrophysical components separation of COBE-DMR 4yr data with FastICA
We present an application of the fast Independent Component Analysis FastICA method to the COBE-DMR 4yr data. Although the signal-to-noise ratio in the COBE-DMR data is typically ∼ 1, the approach is able to extract the CMB signal with high confidence when working at high galactic latitudes. However, the foreground emission components have too low a S/N ratio to be reconstructed by this method ...

We use the COBE 8 Differential Microwave Radiometers (DMR) 4-year sky maps to model Galactic microwave emission at high latitudes (|b| > 20 •). Cross-correlation of the DMR maps with Galactic template maps detects fluctuations in the high-latitude microwave sky brightness with the angular variation of the DIRBE far-infrared dust maps and a frequency dependence consistent with a superposition of...
متن کاملA Preferred-Direction Statistic for Sky Maps
Large patterns could exist on the microwave sky as a result of various non-standard possibilities for the large-scale Universe – rotation or shear, non-trivial topology, and single topological defects are specific examples. All-sky (or nearly all-sky) CMB data sets allow us, uniquely, to constrain such exotica, and it is therefore worthwhile to explore a wide range of statistical tests. We desc...
