چکیده
We report on observations aimed at searching for flux variations from the proposed IR counterpart of the Anomalous X–ray Pulsar (AXP) XTE J1810−197. These data, obtained in March 2004 with the adaptive optics camera NAOS-CONICA at the ESO VLT, show that the candidate proposed by Israel et al. (2004) was fainter by ∆H = 0.7 ± 0.2 and ∆Ks = 0.5 ± 0.1 with respect to October 2003, confirming it as the IR counterpart of XTE J1810−197. We also report on an XMM–Newton observation carried out the day before the VLT observations. The 0.5-10 keV absorbed flux of the source was 2.2 × 10 −11 erg cm −2 s −1 , which is less by a factor of about two compared to the previous XMM–Newton observation on September 2003. Therefore, we conclude that a similar flux decrease took place in the X–ray and IR bands. We briefly discuss these results in the framework of the proposed mechanism(s) responsible for the IR variable emission of AXPs.

Discovery of Radio Emission from Transient Anomalous X - ray Pulsar XTE J 1810 − 197
We report the first detection of radio emission from any anomalous X-ray pulsar (AXP). Data from the Very Large Array (VLA) MAGPIS survey with angular resolution 6 reveals a point-source of flux density 4.5± 0.5 mJy at 1.4 GHz at the precise location of the 5.54 s pulsar XTE J1810−197. This is greater than upper limits from all other AXPs and from quiescent states of soft gammaray repeaters (SG...
متن کاملImaging X-ray, Optical, and Infrared Observations of the Transient Anomalous X-ray Pulsar Xte
We report X-ray imaging, timing, and spectral studies of XTE J1810−197, a 5.54 s pulsar discovered by Ibrahim et al. (2003) in recent RXTE observations. In a set of short exposures with the High Resolution Camera on-board the Chandra X-ray Observatory we detect a strongly modulated signal (55±4% pulsed fraction) with the expected period located at (J2000) 180951.08, −194351. 7, with a uncertain...
متن کاملOn the X-ray Light Curve, Pulsed-radio Emission, and Spin Frequency Evolution of the Transient Anomalous X-ray Pulsar Xte J1810 197 during Its X-ray Outburst
We show that (1) the long-term X-ray outburst light curve of the transient AXPXTE J1810 197 can be accounted for by a fallback disk that is evolving toward quiescence through a disk instability after having been heated by a soft gamma-ray burst, (2) the spin-frequency evolution of this source in the same period can also be explained by the disk torque acting on the magnetosphere of the neutron ...
متن کاملThe Anatomy of a Magnetar : XMM Monitoring of the
We present the latest results from a multi-epoch timing and spectral study of the Transient Anomalous X-ray Pulsar XTE J1810–197. We have acquired seven observations of this pulsar with the Newton X-ray Multi-mirror Mission (XMM-Newton) over the course of two and a half years, to follow the spectral evolution as the source fades from outburst. The spectrum is arguably best characterized by a tw...
متن کاملX-ray Bursts from the Transient Magnetar Candidate Xte J1810−197
We have discovered four X-ray bursts, recorded with the Rossi X-ray Timing Explorer Proportional Counter Array between 2003 September and 2004 April, that we show to originate from the transient magnetar candidate XTE J1810−197. The burst morphologies consist of a short spike or multiple spikes lasting ∼1 s each followed by extended tails of emission where the pulsed flux from XTE J1810−197 is ...
