چکیده

Considering the importance of the myenteric plexus in fishes and the scarcity of data about it, research was undertaken with the purpose of contributing to the characterization of the myenteric plexus in fishes. The terminal segments of intestines of ten adult Cyprinus carpio underwent routine techniques of transverse histological sections of 6 and 10μm in thickness, stained with Weigert-Van Gieson, as well as whole-mount preparations stained with the Giemsa method. The myenteric plexus composed of isolated neurons and ganglia containing groups of two or more neurons was analyzed. Percentages of small, medium and large neurons were 48.8%, 47.6% and 3.6% respectively. Neuronal density in 6.64mm of intestinal segment was 5,099 ± 384.35.

Morphological and quantitative analysis of myenteric plexus neurons of intestinal bulb of Cyprinus carpio (Linnaeus, 1758) (Osteichthyes, Cyprinidae)

The myenteric plexus shows morphologic and quantitative variability in the alimentary canals of different species of animals. We have quantified and analyzed the morphology of the myenteric plexus of ten adult Cyprinus carpio intestinal bulbs, by means of histological cross sections stained with HE and Van Gieson methods, as well as Giemsastained whole mount preparations. The myenteric plexus, ...

Histochemical study of the olfactory rosette of Cyprinus carpio (Linnaeus, 1758)

The distribution and localization of acid and neutral mucins in various cells lining the olfactory epithelium of Cyprinus carpio have been studied histochemically by employing the PAS-AB technique. Variations in the localization of protein in different cells lining the olfactory epithelium have been correlated with the functional significance of the region concerned. Intense localization of t...

Helminth infections in common carp, Cyprinus carpio L., 1758 (Cyprinidae) from Kovada Lake (Turkey).

The aim of this study which was carried out from March 2003-February 2004 was to determine the parasites of carp (Cyprinus carpio L., 1758) inhabiting the Kovada Lake. During the study, a total of 63 common carps were caught in different regions of Kovada Lake each month and investigated parasitologically. In carps, the ectoparasite, Dactylogyrus minutus of Monogenea, was found and endoparasite...

Estimation of growth parameters and mortality rate of common carp (Cyprinus carpio, Linnaeus 1758) population in the southern Caspian Sea

Common carp (Cyprinus carpio) represents one of the most economically important fish species in the Caspian Sea. In this study, growth and mortality parameters among population of common carp was investigated. Sampling was carried out weekly, using beach seine in the south of the Caspian Sea from October 2006 to September 2007. As a contribution to elaborating management programs for common car...
