چکیده

m In the detection of color vision deficiencies, the focus is not only on the disturbed color axis, but also on the degree of disturbed color vision. Therefore, in order to find out the normal sum of errors, we evaluated this color test in a normal population. Methods: 95 subjects (m:f=71:24) without any ocular or general chronic disease were tested monocularly with tie desaturated Roth 26 HUE color test (Luneau, Paris) under standard conditions. The background was a black cardboard, the illumination consisted of two fluorescent lamps (Osram Li 6W/ll, Germany) with 6000 Kelvin. The subjects were divided into 4 different age groups: O-19, 20-39, 40-59 and 60-79. The quantitative analysis was done using a specially developed software (M.A.) on an IBM compatible computer. Results: In the ophthalmic examination, no functional or morphological abnormalities werefound. In general, the mean sum of errors was 66 * 35 (Minimum 0, Maximum 174; Median 60). There were no differences between the right or left eye (p=O,6, MannWhitney test), nor between male and female (p=O,64, Mann-Whitney test). No correlation was found between age and sum of errors (regression coefficient=0,027; p=O,94). Conclusion: Based on these data, the desaturated Roth 26 HUE test seems to be a color test with a stable sum of errors over the age. Therefore, this test can now be used in the follow-up of color disturbances, caused for example by chronic drug application or by chronic diseases. In addition, this test is quicker than the Farnsworth Munsell 100 HUE test and therefore less dependent of the patient’s vigilance. P447

Horner's syndrome: an electron microscopic study of a human iris.

Electron microscopy was performed on the irides of a man with a history of a long standing Horner's syndrome which resulted in iris heterochromia. Comparison of his normal brown iris with the depigmented blue iris showed depletion of anterior border cells and absence of sympathetic nerve fibres. Stromal melanocyte numbers were also diminished but melanosome numbers within the residual cells wer...

Ocular pigmentation in white and Siamese cats.

Ocular pigmentation in white cats with blue and yellow eyes and in Siamese cats was examined ophthalmoscopically and histologically. Yellow-eyed white cats had entirely normal ocular pigmentation. Blue eyes of white cats had normal pigmentation of the iridial and retinal pigment epithelia but no stromal pigmentation of the iris or choroid. This deficit is apparently due to the absence of stroma...

Prevalence of unilateral and bilateral deafness in border collies and association with phenotype.

BACKGROUND Congenital sensorineural deafness (CSD) occurs in Border Collies, but its prevalence and inheritance are unknown. This study estimated the prevalence of CSD in Border Collies and investigated its association with phenotypic attributes linked to the merle gene, including coat pigmentation and iris color. HYPOTHESIS Deafness in Border Collies is associated with pigmentation patterns ...

Gonioscopic Features in Patients with Acute and Chronic Angle-Closure Glaucoma

Background: A number of ocular biometric parameters, iris hiotologic and anatomic characters have been suggested as inciting factors for converting patients with narrow angle to angle-closure glaucoma. This study was conducted to determine if there was any goniscopic difference between patients with acute angle-closure glaucoma (AACG) and chronic angle-closure glaucoma (CACG). Methods: ...

GWAS findings for human iris patterns: associations with variants in genes that influence normal neuronal pattern development.

Human iris patterns are highly variable. The origins of this variation are of interest in the study of iris-related eye diseases and forensics, as well as from an embryological developmental perspective, with regard to their possible relationship to fundamental processes of neurodevelopment. We have performed genome-wide association scans on four iris characteristics (crypt frequency, furrow co...
