چکیده

Purpose: Triple negative breast cancer (TNBC) has had poor prognosis compared with the luminal subtype. And there has been no benefit from doxorubicin. However, the addition of paclitaxel is known to improve both disease-free survival (DFS) and overall survival (OS). The aim of our study was to assess the effect of the addition of paclitaxel after adjuvant chemotherapy with doxorubicin plus cyclophosphamide in TNBC. Methods: We randomly selected 87 women from 104 women with TNBC who had been randomly assigned to receive doxorubicin (60 mg per square meter of body-surface area) plus cyclophosphamide (600 mg per square meter) for four cycles, followed by four cycles of paclitaxel (175 mg per square meter) or two more cycles of doxorubicin plus cyclophosphamide. Due to predictions of clinical outcomes in women who receive adjuvant paclitaxel based chemotherapy, immunohistochemical analyses of these tissue specimens for CK5/6 were used. Results: Among patients with TNBC, 24 patients (27.6%) were classified as CK5/6-positive triple negative type. Twelve patients were classified as paclitaxel chemotherapy group and 75 patients were classified as no paclitaxel group. No interaction was observed between DFS or OS and paclitaxel regimens. CK5/6 was, however, not associated with a significant benefit from paclitaxel in our study. Conclusion: In our study, the addition of paclitaxel after adjuvant treatment with doxorubicin (<60 mg per square meter) is not associated with DFS or OS in TNBC. (J Korean Surg Soc 2010;79:173-179)

Weekly paclitaxel and cisplatin as neoadjuvant chemotherapy with locally advanced breast cancer: a prospective, single arm, phase II study

There was little evidence of weekly cisplatin regimen either for the locally advanced breast cancer or the metastatic setting. We aimed to evaluate that whether the combination of weekly paclitaxel and cisplatin could improve the efficacy of the neoadjuvant treatment for patients with locally advanced breast cancer. Patients with histologically confirmed large operable breast cancer received pa...

A case of HER-2-positive recurrent breast cancer showing a clinically complete response to trastuzumab-containing chemotherapy after primary treatment of triple-negative breast cancer

We report a case of HER-2-positive recurrent breast cancer showing a clinically complete response to trastuzumab-containing chemotherapy 6 years after primary treatment of triple-negative breast cancer. The primary tumor was negative for HER-2 as determined by immunohistochemistry (IHC) and fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH) (1+, and ratio, 1.1), but examination of the recurrent lymph no...

A case report of locally advanced triple negative breast cancer showing pathological complete response to weekly paclitaxel with bevacizumab treatment following disease progression during anthracycline-based neoadjuvant chemotherapy

INTRODUCTION Neoadjuvant chemotherapy (NAC) is the standard of care for locally advanced triple negative breast cancer, however, approximately 5% of cases show disease progression during NAC. Although downstaging is essential to create an opportunity for curative surgery and to improve the local control outcome in such a case, no additional line of chemotherapy has been established. CASE PRES...

Androgen Receptor Expression and Its Correlation with Clinicopathological Parameters in Iranian Patients with Triple Negative Breast Cancer

Background & Objective: Our knowledge about correlation of androgen receptor expression and clinicopathological properties of triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC) patients is inadequate, particularly in the Iranian population. The main aim of the present study was to assess the AR expression in TNBC Iranian patients and evaluate its correlation with their clinicopathological pa...

ERCC1 Expression in Metastatic Triple Negative Breast Cancer Patients Treated with Platinum-Based Chemotherapy

Background: Possible targeted therapies for metastatic triple negative breast cancer (TNBC) include cytotoxic chemotherapy that causes interstrand breaks (platinum-based drugs). The excision repair cross-complementation 1 (ERCC1) enzyme plays an essential role in the nucleotide excision repair pathway, removing platinum-induced DNA adducts and contributing to cisplatin resistance. Detecting ERC...
