Tailor-Made Native XML Storage Structures

چکیده
Automatically choosing suitable native storage structures for XML documents arriving at the XML DBMS is a challenging task for its storage manager. While some of the critical parameters require pre-specification, others can be determined by pre-analysis or sampling of the incoming document or by just making experience-driven “educated guesses”. In this paper, we discuss approaches to achieve an adaptive behavior of the storage manager to provide tailor-made native XML storage structures to the extent possible.

An Adaptive Storage Manager for XML Documents
Effective and efficient management and manipulation of XML documents requires stable decisions at the time a document enters the XML DBMS to provide for storage structures which are adjusted to the document characteristics and which reflect the future processing needs. While some of the critical parameters require a kind of pre-specification, others can be determined by pre-analysis or sampling...
متن کاملOptimizing lock protocols for native XML processing q
Processing XML documents in multi-user database management environments requires a suitable storage model, support of typical XML document processing (XDP) interfaces, and concurrency control mechanisms tailored to the XML data model. In this paper, we sketch our prototype native XML database system called XML Transaction Coordinator (XTC) and specify the operations for accessing and modifying ...
متن کاملEmbedding Similarity Joins into Native XML Databases
Similarity joins in databases can be used for several important tasks such as data cleaning and instance-based data integration. In this paper, we explore ways how to support such tasks in a native XML database environment. The main goals of our work are: a) to prove the feasibility of performing tree similarity joins in a general-purpose XML database management system; b) to support stringand ...
متن کاملXML Data Stores: Emerging Practices
X ML's wide adoption in both academia and industry has revealed a controversial fact. From one perspective, XML is characterized by interoperability, ease of use, and extensibility; from another, it creates difficulties when integrated into existing systems (such as typical database applications and database management systems). One result of this conflict is the arrival of native XML data stor...
متن کاملWhich XML Storage for Knowledge and Ontology Systems?
New research concerning knowledge and ontology management systems in many cases need the versatility of native XML storage for manipulations with diverse and changing data structures. Within the DEB (Dictionary Editor and Browser) development platform, the efficiency of the background data storage for all kinds of structures and services including dictionaries, wordnet semantic networks, classi...
