An analysis of XQuery benchmarks
نویسندگان
چکیده
This paper presents a survey and an analysis of the XQuery benchmark publicly available in 2006—XMach-1, XMark, X007, the Michigan benchmark, and XBench—from different perspectives. We address three simple questions about these benchmarks: How are they used? What do they measure? What can one learn from using them? One focus of our analysis is to determine whether the benchmarks can be used for micro-benchmarking. Our conclusions are based on an usage analysis, on an in-depth analysis of the benchmark queries, and on experiments run on four XQuery engines: Galax, SaxonB, Qizx/Open, and MonetDB/XQuery. r 2007 Published by Elsevier B.V.

From 19.11.2006 to 22.11.2006, the Dagstuhl Seminar 06472 XQuery Implementation Paradigms was held in the International Conference and Research Center (IBFI), Schloss Dagstuhl. During the seminar, several participants presented their current research, and ongoing work and open problems were discussed. Abstracts of the presentations given during the seminar as well as abstracts of seminar result...
متن کاملXQBench – A XQuery Benchmarking Service
Benchmarks have been a driving factor for acceptance and progress in the relational database area, as they gave researchers and engineers directions on the issues to tackle, and marketers the leverage to sell progress on these issues to customers. For more than two decades, standard benchmarks coveringmost application area of relational database have existed, with the most prominent example bei...
متن کاملMemBeR: A Micro-benchmark Repository for XQuery
XQuery is a feature-rich language with complex semantics. This makes it hard to come up with a benchmark suite which covers all performance-critical features of the language, and at the same time allows one to individually validate XQuery evaluation techniques. This paper presents MemBeR, a micro-benchmark repository, allowing the evaluation of an XQuery implementation with respect to precise e...
متن کاملAn Empirical Evaluation of XQuery Processors
This paper presents an extensive and detailed experimental evaluation of XQuery processors. The study consists of running five publicly available XQuery benchmarks—the Michigan benchmark (MBench), XBench, XMach-1, XMark and X007—on six XQuery processors, three stand-alone (file-based) XQuery processors (Galax, Qizx/Open, Saxon-B) and three XML/XQuery database systems (BerkeleyDB/XML, MonetDB/XQ...
متن کاملAn integrated data envelopment analysis–artificial neural network approach for benchmarking of bank branches
Efficiency and quality of services are crucial to today’s banking industries. The competition in this section has become increasingly intense, as a result of fast improvements in Technology. Therefore, performance analysis of the banking sectors attracts more attention these days. Even though data envelopment analysis (DEA) is a pioneer approach in the literature as of an efficiency measurement...
