Novel, Cost-effective, High-quality Surface Plasmon Resonance and Fluorescence Microscope

We demonstrate a novel, low-cost method of building a surface plasmon resonance and fluorescence (SPRF) microscope with high quality SPR and evanescent-field fluorescence imaging using a laser pointer and an oscillating scatterer. SPR Microscopy and SPR fluorescence provide two detection modalities in a highly compact inexpensive package. Applications include point-of-care diagnostics with sensitive detection of spatially distributed analytes that may or may not be fluorescently labeled.
