چکیده

Chest radiographs of 661 British electric-arc welders have been examined by three film readers experienced in the radiology of pneumoconiosis. About 7% of the welders showed signs of small rounded opacities of category 0/1 or greater. No definite evidence of large opacities (Progressive Massive Fibrosis) was seen. The prevalence of chest abnormalities other than pneumoconiosis was 7%. A clear association between prevalence of small rounded opacities of category 0/1 or greater and years of exposure to fumes was established, although few signs of severe grades of simple pneumoconiosis were seen.

Thin-Section CT Findings of Arc-Welders' Pneumoconiosis

OBJECTIVE To describe the thin-section CT findings of arc-welders' pneumoconiosis. MATERIALS AND METHODS Eighty-five arc-welders with a three to 30 (mean, 15)- year history of exposure underwent thin-section CT scanning. The extent of abnormalities detected was correlated with the severity of dyspnea and pulmonary function tests. For comparison, images of 43 smoking males (mean 25 pack-year) ...

Longitudinal change in magnetopneumographic measurements in Japanese arc welders, in relation with working conditions, pulmonary function, and chest x-ray findings

Welding work is associated with the inhalation of fumes and accumulation of particulates in welders' lungs. It is assumed that particulates deposited in the respiratory system, mainly consisting of iron oxides, are eliminated by several mechanisms, such as muco-ciliary transport and macrophage phagocytosis. In their cross-sectional study of 42 Finnish shipyard arc welders, Kalliomäki et al. ind...

Chronic effects of welding exposure on pulmonary function tests and respiratory symptoms.

OBJECTIVES The respiratory effects of exposure to welding fumes have been investigated in numerous studies; but results of these studies have not been consistent. The aim of the present study was to investigate the respiratory effects of welding exposure in a large group of manual are welders exposed primarily to mild steel welding processes in confined spaces without respiratory protection. ...

Knowledge on the Health Effects of Welding Smoke, Use of Ppe among Electric-arc Welders in Ilorin South, North Central Nigeria

INTRODUCTION: Electric arc welding and oxy-fuel gas welding are the commonest welding technologies used in small scale industries in Nigeria. Electric arc welders are exposed to serious health hazards like exposure to welding smoke. Health effects of such exposure include metal fume fever, and increased risk of chronic diseases and cancers. Exposure to welding smoke can be minimized by use of P...
