چکیده

The purpose of this splint is to provide a dynamic modification of a static abduction splint. Many times with injuries involving the shoulder, immobilization causes restriction of shoulder motion. A dynamic splint will provide support for the weakened or paralyzed abductors, while allowing movement in internal and external rotation, horizontal abduction and adduc tion. This type of orthosis would be indicated in conditions such as paralysis of the deltoid muscles, brachial plexus injuries and certain post operative conditions. The device was developed in the treatment of a patient who had a deltoid palsy and who was developing contractures while the deltoid muscle was recovering. The splint allowed the patient to support the arm in 90° abducted position while actively utilizing internal and external rotation (fig. 1 ) , and horizontal abduction and adduction of the shoulder (fig. 2 ) . The adaptations made to the static abduction splint were (fig. 3) :

Glenohumeral Function of the Long Head of the Biceps Muscle

BACKGROUND Optimal treatment of superior labral anterior-posterior (SLAP) tears is controversial, in part because the dynamic role of the long head of the biceps muscle (LHBM) in the glenohumeral joint is unclear. The aim of this study was to determine dynamic LHBM behavior during shoulder activity by studying (1) the electromyographic activity of the LHBM during shoulder motion, (2) the effect...

استفاده از انتقال آزاد عضله گراسیلیس برای برقراری ابداکشن و فلکشن به جلوی شانه در ضایعات شبکه بازویی

Abstract Background: Loss of active abduction and forward flexion of shoulder in brachial plexus injury (BPI) is a severe disability in daily life and employment. Several methods of tendon transfer, such as Saha, Hartman and Bateman procedure, have been described with a limited function. In this study, 4 cases treated with functioning free Gracilis muscle transplantation for BPI were reporte...

The effect of shoulder abduction angles, shoulder dominance and non-dominance and external loading on shoulder muscles co-contraction ratio in overhead athletes and non-athletes

The purpose of this study was to compare the effect of shoulder abduction angles, dominant and non-dominant arm and external loading on co-contraction ratio during arm abduction in scapular plane in overhead athletes and non-athletes. 10 swimmers, 10 handball players and 10 tennis players and ten non-athletes voluntarily participated in this study. Electromyography activity of shoulder muscles ...

Forty-one arthrodeses of the shoulder in thirty-nine patients suffering from rheumatoid arthritis

(thirty women, nine men) have been reviewed. Using internal fixation and external splints the position of the shoulder was maintained in 55 degrees of abduction, 25 degrees of horizontal flexion and enough internal rotation to allow the patient to reach the mouth. The mean period of immobiisation in a thoracobrachial splint was nine weeks, and 90 per cent of the shoulders had solid bony fusion ...
