Demos and Late-Breaking Session of the Thirteenth International Society for Music Information Retrieval Conference (ISMIR 2012)

چکیده
Boasting over 200 attendees from around the globe, the International Society of Music Information Retrieval (ISMIR) concluded its 13th annual conference in Porto, Portugal in October. Although light rain early in the week ostensibly ensured that attendees would remain inside the stunning São Bento da Vitória Monastery, better weather would later indicate the conditions had nothing to do with it. The seemingly unanimous sentiment at the close of the conference deemed this captivating event a great success. Congratulations to the conference co-chairs, Fabien Gouyon and Carlos Guedes, and their entire organizing team. One of the advantages of being a young and evolving community is the ability to adapt easily to new ideas.

Music Imagery Information Retrieval Bringing the Song on Your Mind Back to Your Ears
Most existing Music Information Retrieval (MIR) technologies require a user to use a query interface to search for a musical document. The mental image of the desired music is likely much richer than what the user is able to express through any query interface. This expressivity bottleneck could be circumvented if it was possible to directly read the music query from the user’s mind. To the aut...
متن کاملInfluences of ISMIR and MIREX Research on Technology Patents
Much of the current Music Information Retrieval (MIR) research aims to contribute to the field by creating practical music applications or algorithms that can be used as part of such applications. Understanding how academic research results influence and translate to commercial products can be useful for MIR researchers, especially when we try to measure the impact of our research. This study a...
متن کاملTen Years of ISMIR: Reflections on Challenges and Opportunities
The International Symposium on Music Information Retrieval (ISMIR) was born on 13 August 1999. This paper expresses the opinions of three of ISMIR’s founders as they reflect upon what has happened during its first decade. The paper provides the background context for the events that led to the establishment of ISMIR. We highlight the first ISMIR, held in Plymouth, MA in October of 2000, and use...

متن کاملMusic Information Retrieval
Music Information Retrieval (MIR) involves searching and organising large collections of music, or music information, according to their relevance to specific queries. This is particularly relevant given the vast quantities of musical information available in digital format, and the popularity of music-related digital services. The last four years have seen the introduction of a major conferenc...
