Hypoxaemia during cardiopulmonary bypass.

چکیده
For cardiopulmonary bypass during open-heart surgery we use a bubble oxygenator and a technique of haemodilution and moderate hypothermia. During the course of routine perfusion we have observed arterial desaturation in a number of patients and in five patients the desaturation was marked (SaO2<85%)'. The low arterial oxygen saturations occurred mainly in the rewarming period. This report is of an investigation into this arterial hypoxia occurring during hypothermic cardiopulmonary bypass.

Hypoxaemia after aortic valve surgery under cardiopulmonary bypass.
It has been known for many years that arterial hypoxaemia occurs after thoracic surgery, even following minimal interference with the lungs (Maier and Cournand, 1943; Bjork and Hilty, 1954; DiBenedetto, Glass, Siebens, and Klopstock, 1963) and after non-thoracic operations (Nunn and Payne, 1962). It is also a known sequel of open cardiac surgery (Hedley-Whyte, Corning, Laver, Austen, and Bendix...
متن کاملAlveolar proteinosis lung lavage using partial cardiopulmonary bypass.
An adult case of pulmonary alveolar proteinosis presented with an arterial oxygen tension of 27 mmHg (3.6 kPa) while breathing air. Dangerous hypoxaemia during lung lavage was avoided by using partial cardiopulmonary bypass.
متن کاملComparison of the Effect of Voluven and Ringer Solution in Cardiopulmonary Bypass on the Bleeding After the Surgery and Renal Function in Coronary Artery Bypass Graft Surgeries
Background: This study compared the effect of Voluven and Ringer solution in cardiopulmonary bypass on the bleeding after the surgery and renal function in coronary artery bypass graft surgeries. Methods: Two types of prime solution including ringer - as Crystalloid- and Voluven were used in two groups and compared in terms of bleeding and renal function during the first 24 hours after the surg...
متن کاملJaundice after open heart surgery: a prospective study.
One hundred and fifty four consecutive adult patients having cardiac surgery for a variety of cardiac lesions were evaluated prospectively for postoperative jaundice, those with a raised preoperative serum bilirubin concentration (greater than 34 mumol/l or 2 mg/100 ml) being excluded. The incidence of early postoperative jaundice, as defined by a serum bilirubin concentration of 50 mumol/l (3....
متن کاملArterial hypoxaemia: a side-effect of intravenous isoprenaline used after cardiac surgery.
A side-effect of intravenous isoprenaline used after cardiac surgery Intravenous administration of isoprenaline following cardiac surgery has been shown to cause an increase in existing arterial hypoxaemia. This is considered to be due to an increase in venous admixture following interference with the normal compensatory mechanism which in the presence of alveolar hypoxia tends to maintain norm...
