Carrier Frequency Offset Estimation in Ofdm Systems

چکیده
Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM) is multicarrier modulation scheme for combating channel impairments such as severe multipath fading and impulsive noise. However, the principal disadvantage of OFDM is that it is highly susceptible to carrier frequency offset (CFO). Carrier frequency offset occurs due to frequency discrepancies between transmitter and receiver and Doppler shift of the mobile channel. The impact of CFO are the loss of orthogonality among subcarriers, inter subcarrier interference, accumulation of phase error over successive symbols. These effects can degrade system performance to a significant extent. In order to rectify the aforementioned issues, a signal processing algorithm is to be developed to estimate frequency offset and correct it.
