Helicobacter-pylori gastritis associated with gastric outlet and biliary obstruction
نویسندگان
چکیده
Background and aims: Helicobacter pylori (HP) causes peptic ulcer disease and occasionally gastric outlet obstruction (GOO) but not biliary obstruction. We describe a case of severe HP gastritis causing both GOO and biliary stricture. Methods: Clinic notes, imaging, endoscopy and pathology reports, and hospital course were reviewed. Design: Single case report. Setting: Tertiary care, academic medical center. Participant/s: One patient encountered in clinical practice. The hospital course is described retrospectively. Clinic notes; endoscopy, pathology, and operative reports; imaging studies are discussed. Interventions: CT scan, esophagastroduodenoscopy (EGD), endoscopic ultrasound (EUS), and endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP). She received conservative medical treatment. Results: HP gastritis, GOO, and obstructive biliary stricture were diagnosed by EGD and ERCP. Peptic ulcer and malignancy were excluded. Medical therapy was curative and resolution confirmed by repeat EGD/ERCP. Conclusions: HP can cause both GOO and biliary stricture, for which medical therapy may be curative.

Co-existence of Sarcina Organisms and Helicobacter pylori Gastritis/Duodenitis in Pediatric Siblings
Sarcina are gram-positive anaerobic bacteria found to be associated with delayed gastric emptying and gastric outlet obstruction. We describe two cases of Sarcina co-existing with Helicobacter pylori organisms in pediatric siblings presenting within four months of each other with pyloric obstruction secondary to severe gastritis/duodenitis. The co-existence of Sarcina and Helicobacter pylori ha...
متن کاملGastric Adenocarcinoma Presenting with Gastric Outlet Obstruction in a Child
Gastric carcinoma is extremely rare in children representing only 0.05% of all gastrointestinal malignancies. Here, we report the first pediatric case of gastric cancer presenting with gastric outlet obstruction. Upper endoscopy revealed a markedly thickened antral mucosa occluding the pylorus and a clean base ulcer 1.5 cm × 2 cm at the lesser curvature of the stomach. The narrowed antrum and p...

Helicobacter pylori ( H. pylori ) is associated with a wide spectrum of gastroduodenal diseases. Strong evidence has shown that H. pylori is implicated in the development of gastritis, gastric and duodenal ulcers, MALT lymphoma and gastric cancer. The result of multiple clinical trials had also found out that eradication of H. pylori results in cure of gastric and duodenal ulcers. The improveme...
متن کاملAntral hyperplastic polyp causing intermittent gastric outlet obstruction: Case report
BACKGROUND Hyperplastic polyps are the most common polypoid lesions of the stomach. Rarely, they cause gastric outlet obstruction by prolapsing through the pyloric channel, when they arise in the prepyloric antrum. CASE PRESENTATION A 62-year-old woman presented with intermittent nausea and vomiting of 4 months duration. Upper gastrointestinal endoscopy revealed a 30 mm prepyloric sessile pol...
