The Bene ts of Relaxing Punctuality 1

چکیده
The most natural, compositional, way of modeling real-time systems uses a dense domain for time. The satissability of timing constraints that are capable of expressing punctuality in this model, however, is known to be undecidable. We introduce a temporal language that can constrain the time diierence between events only with nite, yet arbitrary, precision and show the resulting logic to be EXPSPACE-complete. This result allows us to develop an algorithm for the veriication of timing properties of real-time systems with a dense semantics.

متن کاملSocial Security: Universal vs Earnings-Dependent Benets
In this paper, I compare the welfare implications of implementing Bismarckian and Beveridgean social security systems. I rst judge a social security system with universal bene ts against one with earningsdependent bene ts that provides the same level of bene ts. Surprisingly, I nd that agents can be better o¤ with the implementation of a system with universal bene ts both in the short and in ...
متن کاملThe potential contributions of sports sponsorship in impacting the product adoption process
Bene ts sought by businesses that sponsor sports events are discussed and links made between these bene ts and the stages of a potential customer’s product purchase decision-process. The wide variety of bene ts are classi ed into four main categories: increased awareness, enhanced image, product trial or sales opportunities, and hospitality opportunities. The risks associated with business ...

I frequently nd economists who express a view of the system that is very far from mine. For example, many young economists and economics students say that they expect to get no bene ts at all from Social Security. This expectation does not seem sensible to me. If there is no legislation changing Social Security, trust fund assets and payroll tax revenue (and revenue from the taxation of bene...
متن کاملA note on \The Limited Performance Bene ts of Migrating Active Processes for Load Sharing"
The 1988 paper, \The Limited Performance Bene ts of Migrating Active Processes for Load Sharing," by Eager, Lazowska and Zahorjan concludes that migrating active processes for load balancing o ers little additional performance bene t beyond that obtained using only remote execution (placement). This result is based on analysis and simulation of a system model that is intended to overestimate th...
