چکیده

A compact ceramic high-temperature cell for Brillouin spectroscopy was designed and tested. The cell can be mounted onto a threeor four-circle goniometer and allows collection of the full set of elastic constants of minerals to temperatures in excess of 1500 K from samples with dimensions of 1003100320 mm or smaller. As a test of the instrument the single-crystal elastic constants of MgO were measured to 1510~10! K, and are found to be in excellent agreement with earlier independent results. The high-temperature cell should be useful for other types of spectroscopic measurements, and is especially useful in situations where spectral properties vary with the scattering geometry. © 2000 American Institute of Physics. @S0034-6748~00!02201-2#

Thermal Effects Study on Stimulated Brillouin Light Scattering in Photonic Crystal Fiber

we investigate the temperature-dependences of the Brillouin frequency shift in three different kind of single-mode fibers using a heterodyne method for sensing temperature. Positive dependences coefficients of 0.77, 0.56 and 1.45MHz/0C are demonstrated for 25 km long single-mode fiber, 10 km long non-zero dispersion shifted fiber and 100 m photonic crystal fiber, respectively. The results indic...

Simultaneous distributed strain and temperature sensing based on combined Raman–Brillouin scattering using Fabry–Perot lasers

An investigation is performed of the possibility of achieving simultaneous distributed strain and temperature sensing based on hybrid Raman–Brillouin scattering with the use of multi-wavelength optical sources such as common Fabry–Perot (FP) lasers. By employing a self-heterodyne detection scheme based on a multi-wavelength optical local oscillator, the benefits of FP lasers are fully exploited...

(upeq) Monitoring of large structures for safety issues using Brillouin distributed sensing

Optical fibre sensors based on stimulated Brillouin scattering have now clearly demonstrated their excellent capability for long-range distributed strain and temperature measurements. The Brillouin interaction causes the coupling between optical and acoustical waves when a resonance condition is fulfilled. It turns out that this resonance condition is strain and temperature-dependent, so that d...

Analysis of Steady-State Brillouin Nonlinearity in High-Power Fiber Lasers

In the present work, a theoretical analysis of the first-order of stimulatedBrillouin scattering (SBS) in a double-clad (DC) ytterbium (Yb)-doped silica fiber laserin unidirectional pumping mode is presented. An accurate simulation for calculating SBS nonlinearity is performed by considering thecoupled differential rate equations for pump, signal and Stokes powers, as wel...

Brillouin and Umklapp scattering in polybutadiene: comparison of neutron and x-ray scattering.

We report a comparison of high resolution inelastic x-ray Brillouin scattering to coherent inelastic neutron scattering for amorphous deuterated polybutadiene, done for one temperature in the glass phase and another one in the melt. The x-ray scattering proves to be by far the better technique for such a polymer within its present resolution bounds. The neutron scattering allows one to extend t...
