چکیده

Case 1 A 51-year-old diabetic visited us for diabetic retinopathy screening. Left eye fundus examination was limited due to asteroid hyalosis (AH) [Fig. 1a]. Optical coherence tomography (OCT) of left eye demonstrated asteroid bodies with posterior vitreous detachment (PVD) [Fig. 1b]. Left eye OCTA revealed multiple black areas in all slabs resembling capillary drop out areas [Fig. 1c-e]. The black dot is seen in Fig. 1c is over the blood vessel which continues beyond that point, indicating that the vessel is patent.

Clinical Applications of Optical Coherence Tomography in Ophthalmology

Assessment of the peripapillary nerve fiber layer and macular thickness can be determined in ophthalmology using optical coherence tomography (OCT). Decreased nerve fiber layer thickness and macular ganglion cell thickness in optic nerve ischemia have been correlated with visual field loss. OCT allows deep optic nerve head evaluation which helps understand pathophysiology of diseases.  Furtherm...

Evaluation of Optical Coherence Tomography Angiography Findings in Patients with Branch Retinal Vein Occlusion

Purpose: To analyze the correlation of optical coherence tomography angiography (OCTA) findings with visual acuity (VA) in patients with branch retinal vein occlusion (BRVO). Methods: This cross-sectional study was performed on 20 eyes of 20 patients with unilateral BRVO involving the macula referred to the ophthalmology clinic of Rassoul Akram Hospital. OCTA imaging was conducted for all patie...

Idiopathic pigmented vitreous cyst without autofluorescence: a case report

BACKGROUND Vitreous cysts are rare clinical findings and seldom cause visual disturbance. They are generally classified as congenital or acquired and are considered idiopathic when the etiology can not be determined. A previous electron microscopic observation on an idiopathic pigmented vitreous cyst has confirmed its pigment epithelial origin. However, the specific kind of pigment epithelium i...

Image Artifacts in Optical Coherence Tomography Angiography.

PURPOSE To describe image artifacts of optical coherence tomography (OCT) angiography and their underlying causative mechanisms. To establish a common vocabulary for the artifacts observed. METHODS The methods by which OCT angiography images are acquired, generated, and displayed are reviewed as are the mechanisms by which each or all of these methods can produce extraneous image information....

Objective assessment of symptomatic vitreous floaters using optical coherence tomography: a case report

BACKGROUND Vitrectomy for symptomatic vitreous floaters carries significant risks. Justification of surgery is difficult, particularly in healthy eyes with normal visual acuity and without a posterior vitreous detachment. This is the first reported case of optical coherence tomography being utilized to objectively assess the impact of a vitreous opacity on the macula. CASE PRESENTATION A 37-y...
