Behavior of Additive Brominated Flame Retardants in Textile Products
نویسندگان
چکیده
Introduction We are exposed to brominated flame retardants (BFRs) in daily life through multiple media including food products, air, and dusts; direct exposure to BFRs from treated goods is also of considerable importance. However, very little is known about behavior of BFRs in the consumer products. Since textile products such as curtains, carpet, and seat covers have high specific surface areas among household articles, BFRs added to textiles may be emitted to the indoor environment and thus contribute as sources of indoor air and dust pollution. As curtains are normally used under sunlight-exposed condition, photodegradation and isomerization potentials of BFRs in the products are of interest as well.

Temporal Trends of Brominated Flame Retardants and Other Emerging POPs in Waters around East Asia: Retrospective Studies Using Archived Samples from es-Bank, Ehime University, Japan
Introduction Brominated flame retardants (BFRs) are a group of compounds that are added to a wide range of products, such as printed circuit boards, computer cases, electronic appliances, automobiles and construction materials to prevent the outbreak of fire. Among them, additive flame retardants like polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDEs) and hexabromocyclododecanes (HBCDs) are the focus of cu...
متن کاملGrowing Threats: Toxic Flame Retardants and Children’s Health
Brominated flame retardants are chemicals that reduce the spread of fire in a variety of common products from fabrics to plastic. First introduced 30 years ago, they are now widely used despite minimal health testing, and they are rapidly building up inside our bodies. The testing that has been done indicates that brominated flame retardants are toxic to development and the levels found in some...

Introduction Hexabromocyclododecane (HBCD), a class of additive brominated flame retardants (BFRs) in polystyrene foams and textile products, has been manufactured worldwide because of its remarkable flame retardancy. However, there is growing concern about whether its consumption should be prohibited in that HBCD has been recently reviewed not only as one of the candidate persistent organic po...

Introduction. Polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDEs) are currently the most widely studied class of additive brominated flame retardants (BFRs) that have been shown to bioaccumulate in wildlife and humans (Hites 2004). There are an increasing number of reports on PBDEs in top predator avian species (Norstrom et al. 2002; Verreault et al. 2005; McKinney et al. 2006). Specifically, the North Amer...
