چکیده

Composite films of P3HT/PCBM-(poly[3-2,5-diyl]/[6,6]-phenyl C61 butyric acid methyl ester) are widely used as an active layer in plastic solar cells. We have studied the influence of thermal annealing on nano-structural and optical properties of thin spin-coated P3HT/PCBMfilms. Their structural properties were studied by X-ray diffraction in grazing incidence geometry. It was found that the crystallinity of the investigated films is drastically increased upon annealing. Furthermore, the anisotropic dielectric function of such films was determined by spectroscopic ellipsometry. Significant changes were observed both in parallel and perpendicular components of the dielectric function after annealing. These changes were attributed to the formation of crystalline domains upon annealing. D 2005 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved. PACS: 61.10.Eq; 78.20.Ci; 78.66.Qn; 81.40.Tv

High Efficiencies in Nanoscale Poly(3-‎Hexylthiophene)/Fullerene Solar Cells

A modified morphology was introduced for poly(3-hexylthiophene):phenyl-C71-butyric acid methyl ester (P3HT:PC71BM) bulk heterojunction (BHJ) solar cells by thermal and solvent annealing treatments in the presence of hydrophilic-hydrophobic block copolymers. Power conversion efficiency (PCE) plummet was prohibited during both thermal and solvent treatments for all BHJ devices modified wit...

Room to Improve Conjugated Polymer-Based Solar Cells: Understanding How Thermal Annealing Affects the Fullerene Component of a Bulk Heterojunction Photovoltaic Device

We examine how thermal annealing affects the fullerene network in conjugated polymer bulk heterojunction (BHJ) solar cells. We begin by creating electron-only devices with a BHJ geometry by blending the fullerene derivative [6,6]-phenyl-C61-butyric-acid-methyl-ester (PCBM) with polystyrene (PS). These electron-only PS:PCBM diodes function even with a poly(ethylenedioxithiophene):poly(styrenesul...

Printing highly efficient organic solar cells.

The technological attraction in organic solar cells is their compatibility to printing processes. However, up to today, nearly no literature on "printed" organic solar cells have been published and the major body of the research work was done by spin coating or blading techniques. Transferring the spin-coating or doctor blading process currently used for the fabrication of bulk heterojunction s...

In situ Current Voltage Measurements for Optimization of a Novel Fullerene Acceptor in Bulk Heterojunction Photovoltaics

The evaluation of the power conversion efficiency (PCE) of new materials for organic bulk heterojunction (BHJ) photovoltaics is difficult due to the large number of processing parameters possible. An efficient procedure to determine the optimum conditions for thermal treatment of polymer-based bulk heterojunction photovoltaic devices using in situ currentvoltage measurements is presented. The p...

High open circuit voltage organic solar cells based upon fullerene free bulk heterojunction active layers

We have recently reported on a small organic molecule containing a bithiophene core with end-capping phthalimide units (PthTh2Pth) that exhibited a H-aggregation tendency in the solid state and high electron mobility in organic field effect transistors. In this contribution, we have studied both the physical and electrical properties of poly(3-hexylthiophene) (P3HT) and PthTh2Pth thin films by ...
