A coarse-to-fine IP-driven registration for pose estimation from single ultrasound image

چکیده
A fast registration making use of implicit polynomial (IP) models is helpful for the real-time pose estimation from single clinical free-hand Ultrasound (US) image, because it is superior in the areas such as robustness against image noise, fast registration without enquiring correspondences, and fast IP coefficient transformation. However it might lead to the lack of accuracy or failure registration. In this paper, we present a novel registration method based on a coarse-to-fine IP representation. The approach starts from a high-speed and reliable registration with a coarse (of low degree) IP model and stops when the desired accuracy is achieved by a fine (of high degree) IP model. Over the previous IPto-point based methods our contributions are: (i) keeping the efficiency without requiring pair-wised correspondences, (ii) enhancing the robustness, and (iii) improving the accuracy. The experimental result demonstrates the good performance of our registration method and its capabilities of overcoming the limitations of unconstrained freehand ultrasound data, resulting in fast, robust and accurate registration. 2013 Elsevier Inc. A Fast Registration Method Using IP and Its Application to Ultrasound Image Registration
This paper presents a fast registration method based on solving an energy minimization problem derived by implicit polynomials (IPs). Once a target object is encoded by an IP, it will be driven fast towards a corresponding source object along the IP’s gradient flow without using point-wise correspondences. This registration process is accelerated by a new IP transformation method. Instead of th...
متن کاملFrom circle to 3-sphere: Head pose estimation by instance parameterization
Three-dimensional head pose estimation from a single 2D image is a challenging task with extensive applications. Existing approaches lack the capability to deal with multiple pose-related and -unrelated factors in a uniform way. Most of them can provide only one-dimensional yaw estimation and suffer from limited representation ability for out-of-sample testing inputs. These drawbacks lead to li...
متن کاملC-arm Pose Estimation in Prostate Brachytherapy by Registration to Ultrasound
In prostate brachytherapy, transrectal ultrasound (TRUS) is used to visualize the anatomy, while implanted seeds can be seen in C-arm fluoroscopy. Intra-operative dosimetry optimization requires reconstruction of the implanted seeds from multiple C-arm fluoroscopy images, which in turn requires estimation of the C-arm poses. We estimate the pose of the C-arm by two-stage registration between th...
متن کاملRegistration of DSM and Range Images For 3-D Pose Estimation of an Unmanned Ground Vehicle
In this paper, we propose a new approach which registers a range image which is acquired from a 3-D range sensor to a DSM to estimate the 3-D pose of an unmanned ground vehicle. Generally, 3-D registration is divided into two parts that called as coarse and refinement steps. Above all, a proper feature matching technique is demanded between the DSM and the range image for the coarse registratio...

Oceanographic images obtained from environmental satellites by a wide range of sensors allow characterizing natural phenomena through different physical measurements. For instance Sea Surface Temperature (SST) images, altimetry data and ocean color data can be used for characterizing currents and vortex structures in the ocean. The purpose of this thesis is to derive a relatively complete frame...
