چکیده
Methods We enrolled all CDI patients admitted to the Adults III department of the National Institute for Infectious Diseases “Prof. Dr. Matei Balş”, Bucharest, between January – July 2014. Stool culture, toxin EIA and Cepheid Gene Xpert C. difficile test were used for CDI diagnosis. The subjects were divided into two groups: CA-CDI patients (Group 1) and HA-CDI patients (Group 2). Our objective was to describe the clinical, epidemiologic features and outcome of CA-CDI compared to hospital-associated CDIs (HA-CDI) including the ATLAS bedside severity scoring system. Statistical analyses were performed using SPSS Statistics package v.17.

A unique strain of community-acquired Clostridium difficile in severe complicated infection and death of a young adult
BACKGROUND Clostridium difficile is the major cause of nosocomial antibiotic-associated diarrhoea with the potential risk of progressing to severe clinical outcomes including death. It is not unusual for Clostridium difficile infection to progress to complications of toxic megacolon, bowel perforation and even Gram-negative sepsis following pathological changes in the intestinal mucosa. These c...

Clostridium difficile (C. difficile) is an important factor in the development of the gastrointestinal diseases because of irrational antibiotic prescription and antimicrobial resistance. In the past, this bacterium was introduced as an agent of the infection in the hospitals called "hospital acquired Clostridium difficile infection". This infection is a main cause of morbidity and mortality in...
متن کاملUse of rifamycin drugs and development of infection by rifamycin-resistant strains of Clostridium difficile.
The relationship between rifamycin drug use and the development of resistant strains of Clostridium difficile was studied at a large university hospital in Houston, TX, between May 2007 and September 2011. In 49 of 283 (17.3%) patients with C. difficile infection (CDI), a rifamycin-resistant strain of C. difficile was identified that compares to a rate of 8% using the same definitions in 2006-2...

Abstract Background: Clostridium difficile infection (CDI) has been a major growing problem in hospitals in recent years. Detection of the source of Clostridium difficile strains is of importance for the control of the nosocomial spread of this microorganism. This study was done to identify C.difficile isolates by polymerase chain reaction, (PCR), ribotyping. Materials and methods: The descript...
