All stationary points of differential semblance are asymptotic global minimizers: Layered acoustics

چکیده
Differential semblance velocity estimators have well–defined and smooth high frequency asymptotics. A version appropriate for analysis of CMP gathers and layered acoustic models has no secondary minima. Its structure suggests an approach to optimal parametrization of velocity models.

Asymptotic Analysis of Diierential Semblance for Layered Acoustics
Diierential semblance velocity estimators have well-deened and smooth high frequency asymptotics. A version appropriate for analysis of CMP gathers and layered acoustic models has no secondary minima within a sublevel set of velocity prooles, independent of data frequency content, unlike other estimators such as stack power and output least squares. The sublevel set is characterized by the inte...
متن کاملOn Nesterov’s nonsmooth Chebyshev–Rosenbrock functions
We discuss two nonsmooth functions on Rn introduced by Nesterov. We show that the first variant is partly smooth in the sense of Lewis and that its only stationary point is the global minimizer. In contrast, we show that the second variant has 2n−1 Clarke stationary points, none of them local minimizers except the global minimizer, but also that its only Mordukhovich stationary point is the glo...
متن کاملOptimal Search for Moving Targets in Continuous Time and Space Using Consistent Approximations
We show how to formulate many continuous time-and-space search problems as generalized optimal control problems, where multiple searchers look for multiple targets. Specifically, we formulate problems in which we minimize the probability that all of the searchers fail to detect any of the targets during the planning horizon, and problems in which we maximize the expected number of targets detec...
متن کاملA Nonlinear Differential Semblance Strategy for Waveform Inversion: Experiments in Layered Media
This paper proposes an alternative approach to the output leastsquares (OLS) seismic inversion for layered-media. The latter cannot guarantee a reliable solution for either synthetic or field data, because of the existence of many spurious local minima of the objective function for typical data, which lack low-frequency energy. To recover the low-frequency lacuna of typical data, we formulate w...
متن کاملSolution of linear complementarity problems using minimization with simple bounds
We deene a minimization problem with simple bounds associated to the horizontal linear complementarity problem (HLCP). When the HLCP is solvable, its solutions are the global minimizers of the associated problem. When the HLCP is feasible, we are able to prove a number of properties of the stationary points of the associated problem. In many cases, the stationary points are solutions of the HLC...
